Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The Royal Institute of Art (RIA) in Stockholm has taken part in mobility activities - student mobility for studies and staff mobility for teaching and training. Funds were also allocated for traineeships, but that activity was not able to get started during this report period. The institution intends to intensify the information to the students about this opportunity, in order to get started with this mobility activity. RIA is a small fine arts university college with approximately 230 students, out of which about half studies at a BA or MA programme in fine arts and are able to take part in the Erasmus-activities. The number of staff is about 60, including both administrative and teaching staff. Many of the teaching staff work part-time. During this period 4 student exchanges, 1 teacher exchange and 1 staff exchange took place. RIA has about 20 Erasmus exchange partners, in order to offer a broad range of exchange opportunities to students and staff. It is however not possible to have exchanges within each exchange agreement every year. RIA admits more incoming students than outgoing, in order to enrich the international atmosphere at the school and to hopefully make RIA students interested in an exchange to their partner schools. There are not so many incoming Erasmus-teachers, but RIA has a great number of other international guest lecturers visiting during a year. The exchange numbers are very small, one factor being that we are a small school, but there are also many international activities offered to the students – other exchange programmes, bilateral agreements with schools outside of Europe, study trips, residency-programes and international workshops. Many of the teachers find it difficult to find time for an exchange in a busy everyday life, which they combine with a career as artists. All participants have gained new experiences and knowledge, which also makes an impact on the organization when they share these experiences within the school. At an art school there are many opportunities for talks and discussions in small groups and in one-to-one in studio talks. It is difficult to say which specific long-term benefits these 6 specific exchanges will have, but they are a part of a long time strategy to internationalize the school and give students a good preparation for working in an international setting.
