Mobility and international exchange has a strong tradition in the field of music and art. Professional musicians lead nomadic lives and it is important for us that our students travel extensively and encounter different cultures during their studies. A very clear example for this is the life of W. A. Mozart, who travelled to many different european countries with his music. On the other hand W. A. Mozart put an international dimension to the musical life in Salzburg, inspired by his experiences abroad. With this background Mozarteum University considers international moblity to be a natural part of university life and is anxious to motivate students and teachers to take part in various mobility projects. The Erasmus+ programme, learning mobility of individuals, is an important tool for offering international exchange to students and teachers, in this way the programme helps Mozarteum University to pursuing its international strategy.
The main ojectives of student and teacher mobility are the strong need for networking and cooperation between higher educational institutions in the field of music and art in Europe. One important objective of student mobility is the oppurtunity for students to study and work with another teacher. Studies in the field of arts are very strongly connected to and influenced by the teacher in the main field of studies. For this reason a mobility period abroad, with another teacher, will also have great impact on the shaping of the students´ future career and professional networks. It will also open up doors to other cooperation projects through contacts to teachers and institutions in other countries. Students and teachers who have once taken part in an Erasmus+ mobility tend to show a stronger interest also for other kinds of cooperation activities. This influences the cooperation activities on a local as well as an international level positively. Strengthening existing collaborations and building new alliances was one of the main aims implementing the Erasmus+ programme.
Staff mobility:
Eight (8) outbound teacher mobilities to six countries and seven (7) inbound teacher mobilities from seven different countries in the field of music and music education. Teachers were invited to hold masterclasses and workshops and give lectures on specialized topics within their respective artistic field. The content of the courses were for instance: Teaching methods, analysis of different works for chamber music and orchestra, master classes for various instruments etc. The mobility often led to a broadening of the repertoire of the participating teachers which is an indispensable aspect in music education. It also led to a broader understanding of differences in teacher training in different countries.
Student mobility for studies:
12 outbound student mobilities to seven different countries and 18 inbound student mobilities (from ten countries) on bachelor and master level in the field of music, music education, art and drama. The exchange activities in most cases led to a broader understanding of and proficiency in playing the own instrument.
