Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Since its inauguration, sixteen years ago, the University of Milano-Bicocca (UNIMIB) has created an extensive international network and has participated in numerous international programs with great benefits for its students and staff. UNIMIB adopts a multi-annual strategic plan for internationalization that we monitor and adapt to our development strategy for research, innovation and technological development in the international context. Erasmus represents the perfect foundation on which the best quality criteria can be established for any other international activities in terms of services offered and the complete account of study and research periods abroad with regard to students’ academic careers. For UNIMIB Europe represents the first step in building closer relations with other universities in order to consolidate the Bologna Process and its principles. UNIMIB is planning to increase the number of its outgoing and incoming Erasmus students. We implement an efficient and transparent policy in dealing with bilateral agreements. Our academic staff is encouraged to periodically review our agreements in order to adapt our academic curricula and orientate students towards the most suitable destinations in view of their academic goals and research needs. Post-graduate students, albeit fewer in number, are also strongly encouraged to take part in our Erasmus international programs. Our university is investing strongly in language courses so that our outgoing Erasmus students may participate fully in the teaching activities in the countries of destination and attain the necessary level of linguistic proficiency. We note that our outgoing students gain great benefits in what are termed “soft skills” such as working in teams, problem-solving, and adapting to new cultural contexts and environments. These skills are held in high esteem in the world of work. An increase in self-confidence is particularly seen in our students on return from their mobility period abroad. UNIMIB students have a very good record in finding work after graduation and the Erasmus experience definitely contributes to this success. Incoming students can benefit from courses taught in English although Italian language courses are also provided as it is expected that they will reach a good level of Italian during their Erasmus period with us. Our teaching staff is actively involved in Erasmus mobility programs. This allows them to get to know their academic colleagues on the spot in the universities to which our students are destined and also provide them with very useful information in advance of their departure. Relations with the partner universities benefit from this increased exchange of communication. UNIMIB does its best to increase participation in the Erasmus programs although the pan-European economic crisis affecting most European countries including Italy inevitably has a negative impact on students’ mobility.
