Within the Project in the academic year 2014/2015 Lodz University of technology realised 457 student mobilities and 42 staff mobilities. The outgoing students included 3 participants with special educational needs and 21 participants from underprivileged groups.
In Lodz University of Technology mobility is perceived as a tool for improvement and development of didactic process, whereas for students it is an element constituting an added value to their education and personal development. The aim behind the mobility is amongst other the increase of students? employability.
For the University both the content of mobility as well as its influence on the building of the European society play an important role. Mobility is also perceived at the University as the key tool for increase of language competence of its participants, especially as far as languages other than English are concerned. Thanks to the development of this competence the graduates are able to start a job in a language in which they studied or did internship abroad.
The University has a policy of enabling mobility to any student who fulfils its quality criteria. This same approach characterises receiving incoming students by the University.
For local students interested in participating in mobility as well as for the incoming students the University launched the Students Assistance Office. In this unit local and international students who do their traineeship at TUL provide information and assistance to their peer colleagues. A similar role is played by Erasmus Student Promoters who offer help and assistance to the students from their home faculties seeking for a mobility.
Mobility is supported by means of study programmes offered in English and in French. A large group of outgoing students is constituted by the students who study at TUL in a foreign language. Yet the University is concentrated on enhancing the mobility of students representing all study programmes.
For the benefit of the outgoing student a course of studies at considerable numbers of study programmes has been adjusted to a possibility of mobility. This includes offering a mobility semester not only to the students of foreign-language taught programmes but also of two Polish language taught programmes.
Faculties support all outgoing students with an additional finacing in the form of a flat rate of 250 EUR. The students from socially underprivileged groups receive special financing from PO WER funds. Also mobility of students with special educational needs is strongly supported at the university. At present the University aims at promoting itself among international students with special educational needs. This approach provides motivation for infrastructure development and staff training in the area of teaching to students with disabilities.
Incoming students are given a possibility to study any module from any study programme, the only limit being their prerequisites and language skills. The offer of classes in foreign languages reaches 200 modules. Additionally if a group of international students is interested in a module taught only in Polish language, special classes in English can be offered to them.
As far as the academic and administrative staff is concerned, the University makes an effort that the final selection of participants and their destinations is oriented at transfer of experiences in the education quality assurance with a highlight on transferring from teacher-oriented teaching towards student-oriented learning. Mobility induces introducing innovative methods of learning outcomes verification, in particular of those achieved via traineeships. Staff and student mobility is a tool for implementation of innovative learning methods, including problem based learning and education for innovativeness.
International teachers coming to TUL under Short Teaching Assignment are incorporated in teaching process during one or two week interventions.
A special stress is put on international students integration with Polish students, both by means of integration events as well as during regular classes. Incoming students join the already existing student groups or are encouraged to choose European Project Semester, under which they work in international teams on interdisciplinary projects.
International students are accommodated in the dormitories inhabited also by local students. The University is supported in the students integration provess by the Erasmus Student Network.
The University uses Erasmus+ resources to organise study visits for representatives of partner universities and potential partners. During the visits they get acquainted with TUL functioning and offer, as well as they present their organisations. Thet also have the opportunity to discuss the possibilities of future cooperation with TUL.
A special attention is being paid to sustainability of the results achieved via mobility and to their dissemination.
