Higher education student and staff mobility project

Budapest Metropolitan University of Applied Sciences has completed the implementation of its Erasmus+ project under the Key Action ?Learning Mobility of Individuals? with the duration of 16 months, which started in June 2014 and ended in September 2015. Budapest Metropolitan University of Applied Sciences has aimed to carry out the project in line with the undertaken responsibilities and principles included in its accepted Erasmus Charter, such as respecting the principles of non-discrimination and ensuring equal access and opportunities to mobile participants from all backgrounds, providing sufficient support to incoming and outgoing staff and students participating in the mobile activities, ensuring the recognition for satisfactorily completed activities of mobile participants, exploiting the results of the projects in a way that it is maximising its impact on individuals and institutions by encouraging peer learning with wider academic community. Budapest Metropolitan University of Applied Sciences has coordinated and managed 4 types of activities in both inbound and outbound directions, these activities are outbound student mobilities for traineeship, outbound and inbound student mobilities for studies, outbound and inbound staff mobilities for training and outbound and inbound staff mobilities for teaching. As part of the project 33 students spend one or two semesters abroad with studying at one of the partner institutions, while 14 students undertook 3 to 4 month-long traineeship at trusted international companies. In addition, 14 professors gave guest lectures at partner institution in the 2014/15 academic year with the support of the EU grant and another 12 administrative employee visited partner institutions abroad in order to extend the network of the institution as well as to share good practices with people working in related fields. Participants taking part in mobilities for studying reported, that the project helped them to acquire a number of new skills and competences, such as improved problem-solving, analytical and language skills, ability to work in groups and to adapt quickly to new situations, as well as they became more open-minded, and tolerant towards peers coming from different cultural backgrounds, finally they gained confidence, self-assurance and self-knowledge. Therefore, students participated in the project in 2014/15 gained significant advantage in the job market due to their international experience. Some students even applied to several mobilities thanks to the new regulation that allows students to spend 12 months on Erasmus at each level of their studies. As these students gain more international experience in different countries, they gain an even higher competitive advantage among their peers and can inspire our students to participate in the program. Similarly participants taking part in mobilities for traineeship reported that they became more open, cooperative and tolerant during their traineeship period, while they gained important new competences such as self-expression, ability to work in teams, ability to plan and carry out tasks independently as well as improved their planning and organising skills. Additionally, staff taking part in the program also reported positive impacts resulted from their participation, such as improved cultural, social and linguistic competences, increased job satisfaction, personal and professional development due to the sharing of good practices and to gaining sector-specific, practical knowledge and skills. The above detailed positive outcomes generate positive impact at the individual level as well as at the community and institutional level. Participants carry out their tasks more creatively and independently upon arrival, with better skills and reassured confidence and with an increased job-satisfaction from which the institution benefits in its everyday operation. In the 2014/15 project year Budapest Metropolitan University of Applied Sciences also experienced an increase in its incoming staff and student mobilities, which led to the enrichment of its academic life, as even students not taking part in the Erasmus program directly could enjoy the benefit of an international environment in classes and during the guest lectures. Budapest Metropolitan University of Applied Sciences encourages and supports the sharing of these experiences among staff as well as peers, which facilitates the maximisation of its impact. At institutional level, in most cases the staff visits facilitated the initiation of joint projects, researches or extended the existing cooperations at international level, due to the dissemination of the project outcomes and results the participation in the Erasmus program is also beneficial for the local professional communities, associations and networks the institution has strong links to. Finally, all outcomes of mobility activities are displayed, dissemination on our websites and are shared at institutional level.
