The implementation and organisation of European and international mobility at Stockholm University is based on a decentralized responsibility. The main principle is that the university’s departments (about 70) develop their own contacts and collaborations with the aim that internationalization should be conducted on the most appropriate level. Departments should have cooperation agreements with other universities both within and outside Europe that are relevant and interesting to the department’s research and education.
Cooperation at the departmental level provides better opportunities for academic quality and integration of student and teacher exchanges in the educational planning. Departments make their judgments based on academic interests, they create contacts with researchers and teachers at other universities in other countries and the departmental level is important to arouse students' interest in studying abroad.
Each year the central international office (IO) arranges several meetings where all departmental exchange coordinators meet and get new information about the Erasmus+ programme and where questions can be asked. The IO informs them and updates them about SMS/STA/STT possibilities and they are asked to forward the information to their respective departments'. In between the meetings all coordinators are sent information via a e-mailing list.
All students, regardless of faculty, are offered to attend information meetings arranged by the IO regarding exchange studies and traineeship throughout the year, both at the university and at home watching live streamed or taped sessions. Similar meetings have also been arranged by the departments. The number of outbound students continue to increase. The most mobile students are students from the Department of Law, Stockholm Business School, Department of Political Science, Department of Computer and System Sciences and the Department of English. These departments represent three out of four faculties. The fourth faculty, the Faculty of Science, has still difficulties in sending students but many of the departments are constantly working on encouraging the students to do an exchange semester. One of the problems for science-students is the need of laboratory work which is sometimes difficult to execute during an exchange (lack of resources, different education system, etc). Smaller departments also send students, but in lower numbers.
The number of trainees has also increased, and the interest among the students seems to be growing. Several of the trainees have done their traineeship with Swedish embassies (since it is now possible within Erasmus) which has been highly appreciated.
The number of outbound teachers has not yet increased from the previous year, although efforts have been made through for example information sessions at the different departments. This work will however continue and hopefully the numbers will increase.
The number of staff mobilities is so far low. Information about the possibility to do a staff exchange has been, for example, shared to different departments during their staff meetings. More events are planned ahead to hopefully increase the number.
During the year an International Week including a fair was arranged, which aimed to inspire both students and staff/teachers to use the exchange possibilities. During the fair presumptuous outbound students met current inbound students and information was shared and questions asked. There were also representatives from the partner universities and embassies present. During the week there were different information meetings about ways to do a mobility within the Erasmus+ programme, includin both SMS and SMP. The departments were also engaged in the activities and had different meetings and information sessions for their students/staff/teachers.
