Higher education student and staff mobility project

The academic year 2014/15 has been our 5th Erasmus Programme Year. We have managed a total number of 58 mobilities, of which, in a quite balanced way, 30 were OUT, and 28 IN. About the 30 OUT mobilities, 20 have been carried out by students (19 SMS, 1 SMP), and 10 by teachers (9 STA, of whom one in Switzerland, reason why it does not appear on the MT; and 1 STT). Concerning the 28 IN mobilities, 20 of them have been student's (19 SMS and 1 SMP), 5 teacher's (4 STA and 1 STT), and 3 non-teaching staff. Compared with the former academic year, we have experienced a rise of 22,42% in the total amount of mobilites.
All these exchanges have taken place with 40 institutions of 14 different UE countries, as follows: Italy, 15 institutions; Germany, 9; Belgium, 3; Poland, 3; and Austria, Denmark, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Estonia, Hungary, Letonia, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland, 1 each. As can be observed, exchanges with Italy are the dominant ones, representing a 25,8% of the institutions, followed by Germany's with a 15,5%. Belgium and Poland equalize in the third position, with a percentage of 5,17% each one. All the above data follow the pattern of our partners' origin: from the total of 86 with whom we have an IIA signed, 31,4% are Italians, 17,4 Germans, 8,2% Belgian, and 7% Polish. The institutions with whom we have made more exchanges have been Conservatorio" Giuseppe Martucci" de Salerno, with 4 mobilities; Birmingham Conservatoire, 3; Conservatorio di Musica "L. Recife" de Frosinone, 3; Conservatorio di Musica "G. Frescobaldi" de Ferrara, 3; Universidad de Zilina, 3.
Nevertheless, if we analyze in more detail the 40 students IN and OUT mobilities, we can see that preferences differ between both kinds. We have received 15 Italian students (75% of the total amount of IN), 4 Germans (20%), and 1 from United Kingdom. Therefore, our IN pupils come from only 3 countries, with an overwhelming majority of Italian ones. On the contrary, our 20 OUT students have spread across 11 countries, being Germany (5 alumni, 20%), Belgium (4, 20%), and Denmark and Poland (2 and 10% each) the most demanded; only a student chose Italy as the country to carry out her mobility (5%).
Among OUT students, pianists have predominated with 6 mobilities (30% out of the total), followed by percussionists (4, 20%). Cello and composition have enjoyed 2 mobilities each (10%). With an only representative and a 5% each one, we have had a horn, a clarinet, a flutist and a Jazz trumpet players, and the placement student.
The 10 outgoing teachers have represented the most high number of participants in that activity in our Conservatorio Erasmus Program 's history. Compared with the 5 we did last year, they mean an increase of a 50%. And, for the first time, there has been a teacher enjoying a STT. We would like to underline that three of them accepted an invitation from Europe without having a grant assigned. Only later, our National Agency could give them mobility funds. We want also to highlight the good job our professorship did, and as a consequence some of the students from the institutions they visited applied for an Erasmus exchange in our Conservatorio for the current year, contributing so to strenghthen our ties.
Broadly speaking, results have been highly satisfactory for all participants, We feel that Conservatorio Superior de Música "J. Rodrigo" de Valencia is beginning to be recognized in Spain and Europe as an attraction center in both ways in terms of student mobility. Apparently, we are in the first national positions in students' mobilities ranking. Certainly, alumni OUT have come back to Valencia pleased with the experience they have lived in many diverse aspects such as the learning and teaching quality, foreing language improvement, or being able to easy integrate in a different culture. They are the best ambassadors for their peers who want to live similar experiences.
