Background and context
Bidasoa Technical College is a public vocational training school located in Irun, Basque Country, Spain. We have been taking part in many different international projects under several International Relations Managers since the beginning of the 1990s. Many teachers and students from our school have improved both their language and technical skills and have enjoyed enriching experiences thanks to the involvement in the international projects.
All this has reflected in all areas of school life and helped our illusion and motivation to accept new challenges in this area. Since 2008, we take part in a multilingualism project as part of network of schools run by the Basque Government that offers language training in a European language, especially English. This multilingualism programme is offered in two Higher Level Training Cycles.
Objectives
To equip our students with the necessary abilities and competences required in their fields according the the market´s needs.
To support teacher mobility to exchange experiences to enrich the different aspects of their education to learn new methodologies to help students learn in a more meaningful way.
To increase the linguistic skills of both our students and staff improving the students’ employability skills and integration in the workplace.
Number and profile of students
During this school year 5 students have done their Workplace Training in different countries of the European Union. Two students from the Electricity/Electronics field did their on-the-job training in Sheffield, England. One of them was in John Carr + Co Electrical firm and the other in Open Space. Another Land Surveying and Public Works student was in the Chanton Group company in London. Two Industrial Machining students went to one of the Delphi factories in Poland.
One teacher of the Woodworking Department went to the Bern University in Switzerland to work in a project related to the new developments in wood treatments.
Description of the activities
The students made the required tasks related to their field of study as it is refered to in the training agreement. The teacher takes part in a European network that studies the most innovative aspects and technology in wood treatment.
Results and impact as well as the long-term expected benefits
With regard to the evaluation of the Impact of Erasmus Mobility on Students' and Teaching Staff, all of the them have shown great satisfaction with the mobilities. They have greatly improved their level of English, have developed their technical skills, have more options to get a job as they have been offered several jobs.
This experience shows us the way to go ahead in the future to keep looking for new international alliances with schools and other organisations as well as with the most innovative companies.
