The 2014/2015 edition constituted Saint Louis College of Music first participation year in the Erasmus+ Program, KA1 for individuals mobilities.
Entering an already running, consolidated Program, though redefining itself, proved to be a relevant challenge for the Institute, even if already experienced in matters of International Cooperation.
Thanks to a targeted internal sensitization action, the participation to the Program was acknowledged by administrative staff, educators and students, as an important innovation, a substantial outward opening, a growth and confrontation possibility, a substantial step towards Internationalization.
While in progress, given the enthusiasm and the positive feedback of participants, Saint Louis enlarged and consolidated the constitution of a dedicated International Office, in order to cope with the quality requirements demanded by the Program's implementation.
The first, fundamental job, was selecting and involving high international profile partners, experienced in terms of Erasmus, able to teach good practices to our Institute. The selection, starting from Institutes who successfully collaborated in the past with Saint Louis in other International cooperation projects, was then extended to other Institutes whose didactic and quality profile matched Saint Louis', a task which revealed not that immediate, considering our Institute specifically non classical nature.
Few in number, but satisfactory in terms of quality and contents, the Students Mobilities for study.
2 mobilities covered the entire academic year, 2 developed during the second semester only.
There were no participating students with special needs or with disadvantaged social backgrounds, though Saint Louis made clear the possible participation of these subjects to the Program.
The participants feedback was excellent in relation to all phases of the experience, and at the end of their mobility the academic activities were fully and entirely recognized, maximizing the achieved results, and allowing a regular reintegration in their academic path.
No Traineeship mobilities were carried out, a chance that is present starting from the current academic year, thanks to the preliminary job carried out in this sense during this first participation year in the Program.
Staff mobilities for teaching matched the targets and objectives both in terms of number and quality.
Out of 12 realized mobilities, 6 were hosted by the same Institute (Metropolia, Helsinki) in the same days, constituting the entire music didactic content of their "International Week". This translated, for the educators involved, all coming form different areas and Departments, in a double confront: with local students and educators, as well as with colleagues of their own Institute, creating or consolidating a team building process.
4 mobilities were realized in RAMA Aarhus/Aalborg, hosting an existing educator band, giving the chance of a conspicuous and prolific exchange.
1 mobility was carried out upon direct invitation of the receiving Institute to the educator (Poznan), 1 jazz area mobility was carried out in a classical Institute, for trans-disciplinary purposes.
The result dissemination was granted through the creation of apposite areas in the Institutional web-site, in which returning students and educators at the end of their Mobility share their experience through a written report, photos, audio/video recordings. Of large impact, the real time dissemination of the practical implementation of the mobilities Saint Louis operated via social networks. Their experience is also communicated in person to other students and educators in dedicated orientation and information meetings.
The immediate result is evident in the positive feedbacks of participants, in terms of personal satisfactions, growth, social and cultural horizons broadening. The most tangible result is the increase in participation requests for the new edition. We also observed a practical application of the learned good practices in the activities carried out by the educators in the Institute after their mobility.
Notwithstanding the one year participation only, the effects in terms of Institute's Internationalization are already evident: thanks to the enlarged International visibility, the Institute substantially increased the registration number of International students in the Academic Courses, which had its direct effects in the opening of courses totally held in English and a generally felt International profile of the Institute itself.
