During the academic year 2014-2015, 34 students of Athens School of Fine Arts participated in the Erasmus+ program, 30 of which completed a period of study abroad while the rest 4 went abroad with the traineeship mobility action. 25 individuals were women and 9 were men. After having been informed by means of a general information meeting scheduled by the Erasmus office in March, almost all students who had participated in the application procedure for mobility exchange were able to participate in the program. The students’ performance, the knowledge of the foreign language (most specifically the knowledge of the foreign Institution’s working language), as well as the students’ year of studies were some of the selection criteria., During the information meeting as well as during the selection procedure, our office clearly mentioned the fact that participants with special needs would be prioritized over others in case of equivalent qualifications with other participants. However, there were no participation requests by students with special needs during the said academic year. The final selection of the students was done by the competent academic authorities of ASFA, always guided by the principle of transparency, and it must be pointed out that all students who had been selected to participate to the program, regardless of their sex, moved to an Institution of their choice. After having received the relevant certificates or emails of acceptance by the partner Institutions, our students prepared their learning agreements and the Grant Agreements. Due to the studies’ singularity, several students were forced to change the courses selected at the beginning during the exchange period. It must be also noted that because of changes and reclassifications of duties in the Erasmus office and the entire School, students that went abroad for the winter semester were not allocated of the OLS licenses. But in the end, the OLS program functioned properly and successfully for the students of the summer semester. The Erasmus+ Student Charter was distributed to all outgoing students before their departure. In the end, every single student and staff that participated in the exchange program completed and uploaded their report without problems or recommendations by our office. Regarding staff mobility for teaching or training, the only exchanges done were by professors to foreign Institutions with which we have been keeping a fruitful cooperation for many years, but also to new Institutions in the scope of broadening our list of collaborations. Responsible for signing the bilateral agreements is the Rector of the School in cooperation with the academic supervisors and the staff of the Department of International Relations, Educational Programs and Cultural Exchanges who usually make the necessary contacts, while the Academic Supervisors of ASFA’s departments (Dpt of Fine Arts and Art Theory and History Dpt) along with the Institutional Coordinator are authorized to sign the learning agreements. They are also responsible for checking and assuring that the mobility period will be recognized when the student’s mobility is completed.
During the academic year 2014-2015, 23 students came to study in ASFA. The School’s Academic Supervisors are responsible for accepting incoming students based on their portfolios and CVs and for validating their learning agreements, while the Department of International Relations, Educational Programs and Cultural Exchanges bares the responsibility to receive foreign students, bring them in contact with the School’s teaching staff and Greek students, as well as to provide them with a Transcript of Records.
In order to ensure maximum dissemination and exploitation of results, information sessions, workshops and exhibitions by ASFA’s teachers and artists were held during the whole year, in which Greek and foreign students participated, while the general public was informed with press releases or information emails. ASFA also has seven “Annexes” which are used by the Institution as special educational centres. Their operation aims at providing students with additional and specialized training, conducting special workshops in cooperation and mutual exchange with foreign academic institutions and art centres, assisting students in the preparation of their projects, as well as hosting seminars, exhibitions, lectures, screenings, and other cultural events having a positive impact at regional, national and EU level. Students, graduates as well as professors of relevant departments of other Greek and foreign Art Schools have been hosted in the Annexes this year and the feedback we received was totally positive. Finally, the program’s results were measured with ASFA’s self-assessment mechanisms, after controlling the participants’ final reports and receiving feedback by the incoming students and our partners.
