Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Background The mission at ITS is to provide Quality learning to achieve excellence in tourism. As a higher educational institution it believes in the development of all its members, both students and staff, be they academics or administrative staff. Through its innovative high quality lifelong learning academic programmes the Institute of Tourism Studies trains people for tomorrow’s tourism and hospitality industry. Objectives The HE mobility Programme is offered to all students following a HND Course and also to academics teaching such students. Students are highly encouraged to apply for study/placement mobilities, however, placement mobilities are more popular amongst students as it is embedded in their curriculum. The mobilities provide a holistic development to all students. The six-month traineeships prepares them better for the tourism industry. On the other hand, study mobilities are less popular amongst students because of various personal reasons. Nevertheless, ITS constantly tries to promote such mobilities during information sessions and discussions with past participants. Academic staff are encouraged to proceed with a mobility in their field of work, so as to teach/train in a foreign institution or enterprise as deemed necessary gaining more insight in their topic. In this way, they will be able to exchange good practices, returning with discussions and suggestions amongst colleagues to improve where necessary the teaching methods/information provided for their students. Administrative staff are also encouraged to proceed with a training mobility that will also help them enhance working methods and exchange good practices in their field of work. Participants ITS had the possibility of sending 3 students abroad for a study mobility but only 1 applicant proceeded with her mobility, the other applicants withdrew their application, thus the remaining funds were transferred onto the placements mobility, whereby 13 students instead of 12 succeeded in achieving a placement abroad. ITS was granted funding for 10 staff mobilities and ITS succeeded in allocating all funds to the 9 applicants. Nearly all funds for staff and students were utilised throughout the programme. Regarding Staff Mobility, first-time applicants were given preference by the selection board. Undertaken Activities The Call for Applications for students and staff were available on the notice boards at ITS. There was no discrimination towards religions, ethnic/cultural backgrounds, gender, nationality, special needs etc. Funding was granted to all participants according to the country selected and the travel fund was calculated according to the distance calculator provided. All mobilities were inputed in the mobility tool prior to distribution of funds. 80% of funds were issued prior to departure or at the beginning of the mobility period, whilst the final 20% was submitted when all required documents were handed-in. SM mobilities - ITS organised an in-depth meeting and presentation about the programme and the advantages about proceeding on such mobilities. After the meetings a call for application was opened and students were informed about it. All queries were dealt with the Mobility Coordinator together with Management and the NA. The selection process was done via ESGAC, students who were not offered a salary from the host enterprise were given priority and ranked according to their academic performance, then the remaining funds were distributed to all other participants. In this regard 80% of funds were distributed prior to mobility for students who did not receive a salary, whilst the remaining students received their funds during their placement period as their placement had already commenced when this procedure was decided. The final 20% was distributed to all students when all required documents were submitted. ST mobilities - ITS organised an information meeting for all staff members as well as issuing various emails throughout the application stage. First time applicants were given preference but all applicants proceeded with their mobility. Results and Impact Attained All mobilities were successful and regarding SMPs some students were offered further employment with overseas enterprises. Staff members were given the opportunity to disseminate the knowledge attained with their local participants. The SMS student was content with the knowledge gained abroad. Placement Mobility at ITS has been taking place for over twenty-five years and now that the school trebled in size, the EU funds helps us send more students to various EU countries. Students also have the possibility of benefitting from a study mobility, thus widening their horizons and staff are also invited to apply for a teaching/training mobility as deemed necessary. The OM fund was also utilised for overseas meetings to make new contacts for future traineeship. Traineeships will now be held over a 12 month period.
