IRTS, a school of Social Work in Réunion Island, a French overseas department, is conscious of the high interest of mobility for our students in the process of professional skills construction.
Ever since IRTS has been created, we have developed partnership with Canada, Belgium and countries in the Indian Ocean Zone.
Our adherence to the Erasmus+ Charter is in complete line with the overall strategy of IRTS, aiming the promotion of international exchanges which constitute a real vector of our values such as humanism, commitment and otherness, and aiming to train social workers capable of integration into the European area.
Beyond the fact of encouraging mobility of our students in order to learn different professional practices, organisations and contexts, it is also a question of developing social expertise of our training staff in the knowledge of social issues.
Among our priorities in our international projects which are quite consistent with the conclusions of the « Etats Généraux du Travail Social » - General States concerning Social Work in France, such as social development, the coordination of actors, and crucial local issues such as those relating to disabilities and handicaps, gerontology, foster care and domestic violences.
So, in this convention covering a period of 2 years, the activities that have been carried out are :
- for the students (bachelor level), « assistant de service social », specialized educators and educators specialised for young children : 18 mobility placements which completed the possibilities of placements done in France, 1 study mobility to initiate this modality of training courses.
- For the staff, 3 Study mobilities have been carried out to develop expertise in the fields of Social development, domestic violences and handicap issues.
The results are as follows : the students mobility placements have been completed for all except one for medical reasons. The impact on the future professionals is the openness of mind on other contexts and development of maturity due to their confrontation in other cultures, as shown in the evaluations that have been done.
The study mobility has given us a good idea of different mobility possibilities for our students.
The exchanges of our professional staff have initiated working tracks in common with our partners in Belgium and Portugal with whom we are developing a Strategic partnership project, concerning domestic violences – the final idea being the construction of a training course with a systemic approach of this issue.
