Higher education student and staff mobility project

Although International Mobility is not mandatory for Bocconi students’ academic cv, in the last few years applications to the Exchange-Erasmus Program have increased significantly. As a consequence, and in accordance to our EPS and strategic plan, alliances with top HEIs, in the fields of management, economics, finance and law are sought for or expanded, based on the sole criteria of high academic quality. Such partnerships are aimed at providing opportunities to students primarily at the BSc and MSc level, through collaboration on student exchange or joint/double degree programs. Through different formats, these agreements ensure an extended exposure of students to the partner schools academic and corporate environment. Study abroad opportunities not only expose students to qualified academic environments, they also introduce them to new cultural, social and economic contexts giving them the first tools needed to understand and to access new job markets. Internships are credit-granting activities (mandatory for the MSc and highly recommended for the BSc and for the Combined BSc and MSc in Law), but they do not need to be abroad in order to be recognized in students’ study plan. Nevertheless, an increasing number of students seeks training opportunities in a foreign county. Bocconi is committed to further enhance the number of students and graduates taking work experiences abroad. Bocconi strategic plan includes in its objectives to increase the intl exposure of students, in terms of both study abroad opportunities (exchange, double degrees, etc.) and international internships (see section 3.Description of the Project). In 2014-15 Bocconi was able to expand its network of HEIs worldwide and was first among PIM (Partnership in International Management) Business Schools for the number of international opportunities offered to its students. In the same ay, international internships increased too. See section 3.Description of the Project for further details. Erasmus+ allowed promotion of high-level students exchange, as students demonstrated a raised interest in the Erasmus+ destinations for a one term mobility period. Activities aimed at valorization and promotion of academic brands of the European partners, as well as emphasizing the international higher education partnership were carried out: the project reinforced the existing partnership between some top European institutions by optimizing and fine-tuning the present students’ exchange programs. This project would favor a cross cultural approach, cultural interchange, stimulate comparison and recognition of like-minded and complementary cultures, that share many values and have the ambition to positively participate in a much wider and profound global movement. Erasmus students will become cross-cultural ambassadors: enthusiastic of what they have seen and learnt, they may discover that diversity can be a stimulus as opposed to an obstacle to socialization and interaction among cultures. The project activities lead to the design of an international curriculum: international mobility helps students preparing to work in an increasingly international marketplace by developing a global perspective to their thought process and decision making skills, especially referring to their business administration and management field of study. Recognition of best practices in the program management is favored as the Project may offer partner Universities a further occasion to interact and share their experiences, best practices, structures, process designing tools and program management styles at academic and administrative level. The project leads also to standardization of the academic framework: Erasmus may facilitate and contribute to the comparison and standardization of the European university system -also referring to the spirit of the Bologna process- and smooth the mutual recognition regional Higher Education systems. The interest in international working experiences has raised as the one for study periods abroad. The Erasmus+ grants helped students to take advantage of internship opportunities in target foreign job markets, thus further enhancing their preparation to work in an international environment. Erasmus+ trainees share the same benefits of their peers studying abroad in terms of cross-cultural approach and soft skills development. One of Bocconi’s strengths is its link with the business community. Widening its network with new European corporate partners and strengthening the relations with the existing ones is crucial for Bocconi to maintain a leading position within the European business schools. Moreover, wider international exposure results in higher chances to undertake an international career: around 25% of our graduates in ay 2012-13 work abroad (last survey available). This allowed Bocconi to develop a solid network of alumni working in leading roles and in all industries, thus further improving its ties with the European business community
