Istanbul 29 Mayis University is a young university that accepted its first students in 2010. At the moment it has 832 students enrolled in its 11 first-cycle thought degree programmes and second-cycle master programmes. However, only three departments have completed their four years education programmes. In 2014-2015 academic year, we joined the Erasmus+ programme with positive but not yet satisfying results. We received 7 students (5 from Germany, 1 from Italy and 1 from Lithuania) in the framework of the SMS. However, we were able to send abroad only 2 students (1 to Slovakia and 1 to Hungary) who successfully completed the SMS. Another student was forced to return back from Hungary because of a serious medical condition. Two more students returned from Italy without providing a valid excuse.
Staff exchange for training and teaching has been much more successful. 5 member of faculty participated to the staff mobility for teaching (2 to Italy, 2 to Austria, 1 Spain). 2 member of the administrative staff participated to the staff mobility for training (to Macedonia). We received one guest from Austria in the framework of the Staff mobility for training and 4 in the framework of the staff mobility for teaching (1 from Austria and 3 from Hungary). Staff mobility has been particularly important because has permitted us to increase the number of exchange agreements and explore possibilities for other forms of collaboration with other higher education institutions across Europe.
The International Office worked in the period to increase the number of exchange programmes (at the moment only one department has no exchange programme), to train its administrative staff and the teaching staff. It worked also to increase it visibility with a separate webpage.
We were not able to fully use the budget essentially for three reasons: 1- the budget application was intended for two academic years; 2- the small number of students and the fact that the departments that deliver education in English had students only enrolled in the first year; 3-the lack of the experience of the teaching and administrative staff.
