Higher education student and staff mobility project

The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) aims at facilitating/making possible the mobility of its students and staff - academic or non-academic - through the different actions of the Key Action Learning Mobility of individuals, as part of the UIB’s internationalisation policy. Concerning Student mobility, the UIB was granted 150 mobilities of which 145 were funded by the EU: state numbers and average duration 4 months. Germany, Italy and Poland with more than 10 mobilities are the top sought (after) countries by UIB students. Total number of UIB students: 162 Concerning Staff mobility for teaching, the UIB was granted 33 mobilities of which 32 were funded by the EU; average duration 4.42 days. Concerning Staff mobility for training, the UIB was granted 9 mobilities of which 7 were funded by the EU; average duration 5 days. The International Relations Office (SRI) is responsible for managing this Programme at the UIB, with the support of the Faculties and Schools and all their personnel. On the other hand, it promotes and encourages outbound student and staff mobilities through information sessions; for inbound student mobilities an induction week is organised in September and one in February, with the support of the local branch of the ESN (Erasmus Student Network). A Mentoring Pilot Project was set into place at the Faculty of Economics and Business, which turned out to be great success. The Project has enabled students to experience a different academic system and environment, adding to their academic profile new competencies. The Project has also enabled academic staff to teach and share know-how and experience in different HEIs, acquiring new competencies and improving their academic skills. T Concerning non-academic staff mobilities, the Project has given them a unique opportunity to learn, firsthand, from their European peers, sharing experiences and knowledge. This fact helps strengthen ties between the institutions. It goes without saying, but perhaps one of the most important aspects of the Project is related to improving the beneficiaries' language skills, from which the Institution also benefits. As mentioned beforehand, this Project plays a key role in the UIB's internationalisation policy, and thus aims at strengthening its participation in all KAs that make up the new Erasmus + Programme, as coordinating institution or as partner.
