HERITAGE INTERPRETATION & INNOVATIVE PRACTICES (HIIP)
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Europe’s cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible, is our common wealth – our inheritance from previous generations of Europeans and our legacy for those to come. It is an irreplaceable repository of knowledge and a valuable resource for economic growth, employment and social cohesion. It enriches the individual lives of hundreds of millions of people, is a source of inspiration for thinkers and artists, and a driver for our cultural and creative industries. The challenges all need to be addressed to ensure the sustainability of Europe’s cultural heritage. The heritage sector must also adapt management and business models and develop new professional skills, working with authorities not through one-off, isolated interventions, but by making the valorization and preservation of heritage part of broader long-term development plans. A new approach to heritage and its interpretation consists in: • Becoming more people-centred. • Taking new opportunities offered by digitization and online accessibility that enable unprecedented forms of engagement and open up new revenue streams. • Organizing an intelligent dialogue between different points of view thanks to an increasingly community-oriented approach, led by people and stories, for instance proposing heritage-based narratives that weave the personal stories of community members into the interpretation of larger historical events. • Interacting the audiences with the collections, by placing them at the heart of the activities. To address these challenges, an operational committee has taken together the involved persons locally in charge with culture (represented by the Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes), heritage interpretation (Local Heritage Interpretation), social inclusion (Belle Rive social center), tourism (Local Touristic Information Office) in strong cooperation with the Saintes Local Authority. This committee aims to identify the best practices in terms of heritage interpretation and audience development in order to deep its competencies in these fields. This operational committee takes together a representative of each consortium member (and 2 for the coordination organisation), so 6 participants in total for each mobility period. In this framework, 2 observation sessions will be organised on the territories of 11 European countries during 2 days long study visits for each mobility period. Each operational committee member will use its professional specific approach to enrich the global project by his/her analysis. Each observation period abroad will be concluded by a contributive synthesis work, in French and in English. The successive synthesis report will enrich the methodology with the perspective of the conception and the realisation of an innovative heritage interpretation discovery tour at the Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes. The final objectif of the ERASMUS+ mobility program will be the spreding of the new contributive methodology associating experts and local communities thanks to the co-construction of innovative touristic hertiage visit discovery tours and their transposition to other historical monuments, to other French, European and extra-European territories. The identified good practices thanks to the ERASMUS+ mobility program will be spread to the consortium member staff, the foreign host organisations, the French and foreign professional world. They will be transposed, experimented at a local level by different targeted publics (local communities and tourists) who could enrich, develop, improve their competencies (human capital and social capital) and their experiences. They will also contribute to the capacities improvement of their key-competencies like "digital competencies", "social and civic competencies", "cultural awareness and expression", and so contribute to a better transmission of the European cultural heritage, and also by maximizing its economical and social potential. In terms of estimated publics, the project aims to train to innovative heritage interpretation practices: - directly: 490 adults employed by the consortium members and more that 2.000 personnes employed by the host organisations - indirectly: more than 70.000 adults per year among the targeted groups in the consortium members
