TERMINÉ
The Project was aiming to instruct the participants about Finland education system, disadvantaged students, special education in primary and secondary level, early diagnosis and support and vocational training. In addition, school visits were done during the project so that the system was observed in an applied way. This program had experiential approach. English was the language used for training. The Project took place in Joensuu, Finland. A city of education, Joensuu offered participants the opportunity to learn about special education system. The Project lasted for five days and was held with the attendance of five participants. In basic terms, it was preferred that participants had sufficient language proficiency and experience in this field, the participants were well-informed about special education and were capable of instructing in all age levels. Moreover, it was beneficial to have an administer to provide management. Course activities were outlined as follows:
On the first day, participants was informed about the Finnish education system. Applied instruction was done with the 13-16 age group. Participants were informed about PISA (International Student Assessment Program) .
On the second day, participants were informed about the education given to early diagnosis private students in kindergartens and classrooms. Visits were made to kindergartens and primary school. Participants were informed about part-time special education and classrooms.
On the third day, kindergartens and schools were visited. Participants were given the opportunity to get an applied education about the children given special support and education of gifted children. North Karelia Vocational School, Niinivaara Upper Schools were visited. Participants were informed about vocational training given to the students in these schools.
On the fourth day, participants were informed about Special tutors and special education teachers. Besides, they got information about training given to the teachers in East-Finland universities.
On the fifth day, National Park was visited. Rural School was visited. Participants were informed about the supportive education given to children in this school. North Carolina museum was visited. Mutual opinions of the participants were taken and exchange of ideas was discussed.
Participants learned about the special education system in Joensuu where the project was held. In this way, they were able to compare this system with the system in their own countries. Participants were informed about PISA (International Student Assessment Program) so that they got the opportunity to develop their own assessment methods. They were able to learn about the special education system by visiting kindergartens and primary schools in Finland education system.
