Helping the helpers: A training course for youth workers on new trends on civic education

The political participation of young people in Europe has decreased in the recent decades. Youth people exhibit also in other civic competencies (political efficacy and political knowledge) less records/levels in comparison to other age groups. This implies that quality of democracy is diminishing because a social group participate less and also account less (than other groups) to the political authorities. In order to revert this scenery, three European institutions with a recognised experience in the youth arena have designed a training experience (with virtual and in person components) for youth workers. The main purposes of these courses is to help them to learn new tools in civic education. The institution taking part of this partnership are from Spain, United Kingdom and Greece. These courses help participants (youth workers) to acquire new instruments to stimulate among youth people different civic competencies: political knowledge, political attention (interest), political participation, political efficacy and political tolerance. The project focuses, specifically, on youth workers who work with youth people among 13 and 17 years old. Professionals working at the Secondary School are, although not exclusively, the main target of the project. . There will be a gender equilibrium among the participants in the courses. At the same time, there will be presence of members of sexual, religious and ethnic minorities. The selection of participants (18 in total) will be done through an open and competitive process. The training of the youth workers will be intensive in the use of new technologies. There will be and official web site and official App with two purposes: to support in the diffusion of the project and to support in the learning process of the participants. Different Apps and software will be used in many stages of the projects (duties management, quality control, impact evaluation, etc.)
