Hate is not our fate is a two phase training course taking place in Rustavi, Georgia and in Brno, Czech republic in August and October 2015 that is an outcome of the long-term cooperation of the partner organizations on the topic of Hate Speech on-line. The main aim of this training course is to combat hate speech in Europe, especially in on-line environment and provide the youth leaders and youth workers with the competences to interpret and understand the hate speech as a form of violence and to work systematically in their communities especially with young people to fight against, prevent and oppose hate speech and its impacts on the society. During the two phases of the training course the strategies for youth workers and young leaders will be developed that will support them to implement actions and activities in combating hate and violence in all its forms. The training course is a follow-up of a previous activity implemented by the partners, the training course called Hate Speech Where Were You during which it was proved that the topic is highly relevant to young people from different EU and Partner countries and that it is necessary to provide the youth leaders and youth workers with complex competences to work efficiently in their communities. We also react on the long-term dangerous trends and recent events happening in Europe such as rise of xenophobia, islamophobia, hate and intolerance based on ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and other types of radicalism. The social networks but often also mainstream media provide unlimited space for those expressions of hate to be performed and spread and young people become extremely vulnerable to their influence. Importantly, young people themselves might become victims of the hate speech but they are also might be influenced by many movements, get caught up in saying things and being involved in things without fully comprehending the impact of their words or actions. During the first phase of the training course that will take place in Rustavi, Georgia, 24 selected youth workers and youth leaders who will express a strong will to become No hate speech ambassadors in their communities will gather to explore the expressions of hate as a form of violence, to understand how they and other young people are influenced by them and what roles they might undertake, to understand how hate speech influences our own communities and whole European society. One of the objectives of this phase will be also to develop sense of responsibility to become an active witness, as a part of European citizenship. The second phase taking place in Brno, Czech republic, the same group of 24 youth leaders will meet again to learn and practice specific competences of combating hate speech, crisis communication and non-violent communication and to develop strategies for implementation of the projects on the local level in the communities of involved youth leaders and youth workers. The best quality and innovative projects developed by the participants will be supported by small grants divided by the organizers in cooperation with all the participants at the end of the second phase. The participants will receive intense mentoring during all the phases, in order to ensure the quality of the dissemination of the project results and also during the following phase after the training courses. Furthermore, the training course “Hate is not our fate” will be implemented as a part of the Europe wide campaign No Hate Speech Movement supported by Council of Europe that is a campaign against the expressions of hate speech online in all its forms, including those that most affect young people. Activities of the training course will include No Hate Speech Movement session, and they will be strongly based on the methods of non-formal education, self-assessment, development of the competences with a regard to individual needs and learning styles of the participants. Plenary inputs, theories, small and large group work, self-directed learning, online research, presentations, intercultural exchanges, group building, self-assessment, sharing, experiential learning and self-reflection will be used during the training course. The project raises awareness, uses advocacy and seeks for creative solutions. First of all it equips young people and youth organizations with the competences necessary to recognize and act against such human rights violations.
