On both sides of the border the economic differences are increasing, industrial activities are decreasing or stagnating. Capabilities for agriculture are not favourable either, people on the countryside are getting poorer. Practiced labour is abundant, wage levels are low, unemploymet is the most precious social problem of the region. The similarities rather strengthen competition due to lack of cooperation. Cross border cooperation is weakly developed. Both sides are strongly disadvantaged in economic terms, but there is opportunity for development thanks to the accession to the European Union, free trade and movement of labour.As Lead Partner, the mission of the Foundation as per memorandum of association is:To promote the competitiveness of SMEs along the border, to provide professional background and advisory institution for the successful management of SMEs in order to utilise the opportunities of the common European market effectively and to promote information channelling.Our building is located in the border town Balassagyarmat and is involved in the integrated town development plan as a building to preserve and serve public functions. The Municipality together with the Head of Curators of the Foundation worked out the plan for renovation and new functions, primarily with the aim of economic development: an advisory institution with professional background. The initiative generates and manages new projects in the area, provides business incubation, under the name Regional and Enterprise Development Centre - House of Projects, where every enterprise can be housed which can contribute to the above aims.Following incorporation in September 2007 with our Slovak partner Občianske Združenie BOVAP seated in Lucenec and Hungarian professionl partners we started to work on the feasibility study and construction plans according to which the 678 m2 floorspace building will be reconstructed for economic development functions in 2009-2010.
