Considering that the target area is highly concerned both in terms of water scarcity and the high environmental risks of uncontrolled urbanization it is essential to jointly manage its complex development with the participation of the most relevant institutions from both sides of the border. In this water management cooperation such documents are prepared which give answers to important water management challenges with cross-border relevance. The 3 extensive expert studies contain mapping and modeling solutions as well. In the focus of professional work urbanizational borders and their dangers are found, which can be modeled and analyzed sufficiently in Homokhátság and Novi Sad. In spatial sensitivity researches PP2 is an active participant, since it has an independent study-part made on the special regional aspects of water management in Homokhátság.Building upon professional work 2 high-value investments are planned.ATI-VIZIG purchases an excavator for ensuring proper maintenance of canals in the cross-border area, while PP1 develops a pump station with modern apparatus. In PP2’s implementation a „Homokhátság” Visitor Center (dam guardhouse) is built, which presents temporary and permanent exhibitions introducing water managementand protection actions. This cooperation raises common water management problems of bordering settlements to European level, and it builds the revision of water management into settlement and spatial developmental strategies with the help of professional forums. Achievements: Considering that the target area is highly concerned about water scarcity and the high environmental risks of uncontrolled urbanisation, the joint management of the area’s complex development with the participation of the most relevant institutions from both sides of the border is required. In this water management cooperation of two organisations from Hungary and one from Serbia, documents were prepared to provide answers to important water management challenges with cross-border relevance. The three extensive expert studies also contain mapping and modelling solutions. The focus of the professional work was on the urbanisation of border areas and its dangers, which were modelled and analysed in Homokhátság and Novi Sad. The second project partner was involved in spatial sensitivity research and conducted an independent study on the special regional aspects of water management in Homokhátság. The problem affects more than 1 million inhabitants who are the final beneficiaries of the project’s long-term impacts. The objectives of the project were to develop sufficient professional competences and provide equipment to avoid extreme water management events as well as to inform the population through spectacular exhibitions. Based on the professional work, two high-value nvestments were concluded. An excavator was purchased to ensure the proper maintenance of canals in the cross-border area and a pump station was equipped with modern apparatus. A dam guardhouse called“Homokhátság Visitor Centre” was also built and it hosts temporary and permanent exhibitions that present water management and protection actions. This cooperation raised the management of common water problems in the bordering settlements to a higher level and heralded the re-evaluation of the question of water management within settlements and spatial developmental strategies with the help of professional forums.
