Harmonious Development of Rural and Insular Areas (HADRIAMED)

The main objective of project HADRIAMED is to enhance the role of isolated, mountain and island areas in a modern socioeconomic context, through the development of a territorial planning focused on attraction of new residents in isolated areas. All the regions involved in the project present similar problems such as: • Negative demographic trends • Increasing of average age of population • Limited natural and human resources impedes the development of several activities • The productive system remains anchored to traditional sectors • Logistic difficulties and obstacles in market accessing • Lack of communication systems and of services to enterprises • Low valorisation of a tourist offer environment friendly • Reduction of available resources caused by decrease of inhabitants (contributively base) • Increase of services demand, caused by population aging • Fragile ecosystems • Risk of hydro geological disarrangement The main activities of the project can be summarised as follows: • Project management, monitoring and evaluation • Studies of ex ante situation and definition of program lines of the sustainable development model for mountain and insular areas through the attraction of new residents • Pilot actions - implementation of integrated actions in isolated and mountain areas for an endogenous and sustainable territorial development, aimed on new residents attraction • Modelling of methods • Creation of network among hosting rural areas • Dissemination and Mainstreaming Expected Results: • Knowledge of valorisation of territorial potentials; • Increasing of territorial planning capacities; • Creation of a development model for isolated areas, through the attraction of new residents; • Setting up of a transfer model of wireless services; • Transnational networking among rural, mountain and insular areas, for developing of shared policies of planning and management of territory. • Implementation of actions among policy makers, to the valorise the territories’ potentials through new policies of new residents attraction
