The seminar H.O.M.E: Higher Opportunities for Migrants in Europe is a jointly activity of Youth Express Network (Y-E-N) and Voice of Young Refugees in Europe (VYRE). It will gather 25 participants from 9 different countries (France, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Romania, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia and Bosnia & Herzegovina). This activiti will be held from 21st to 28th September 2014, in Mollina, Spain, during the 15th Edition of the University on Youth and Development. The aim of the seminar is to improve life and opportunities of young migrants and refugees in Europe.
The main objectives are:
- Raise awareness on young migrants and refugees' life-stories and daily realities
- Promote social inclusion and equal rights of young migrants and refugees
- Empower young migrants and refugees to engage on public debate and act as multipliers
- Equip youth workers to understand the specific needs of young migrants and refugees
This seminar is designed for young migrants and youth workers who work with them. During the activity we will work on the topic of immigration in Europe through the prism of young migrants and refugees. We will focus on different topics such as Identity, Citizenship and Information.
Our working methods will be based on methods of non-formal education. Active participation of participants will be strongly encouraged. We will use participatory photography /Photovoice and digital story telling as our main working tool.
We want to create a safe space for young people coming from migrant and refugee backgrounds to reflect on and build the way they want to be perceived by society.
The programme will have 4 main focuses:
1) Introduction and group building (day1)
2) Young migrants, citizenship and identity (day 1 and 2)
3) Photovoice and storytelling as tools for active participation of young migrants (days 3, 4 and 5): Theory, development, product, debriefing
4) Planning of future activities; personal and professional action plan and evaluation (Day 6)
This project include partners from different parts of Europe (Europe from a broad point of view) in order to have a broaden perspectives of youth migration. The richness of this partnership is also on the approach of migration issues and target group of different partners (regugees, asylum seekers, IDPs, migrants comming from different cultural backgrounds).
We will produce and disseminate a short movie with the results of the activity on the last day, as well as after the seminar.
We also plan, in more long-term, the mainstreaming of our results: we hope to convince desion-makers to adopt the experiences and results from our project to use them in local, regional, European policies, systems or practices.
