The aim of the project, meant for the staff of Gustav Adolf Grammar School, is to renew the school curriculum and the division of work through international subject-based training sessions and the best practices in Europe. The example of European schools allows the students of Gustav Adolf Grammar School to be more flexible in shaping their studies by, for example, creating their own personal curriculum, based on their interests and further academic ambitions. The new approach of Gustav Adolf Grammar School to modernizing its curriculum - with lots of selective courses and classless grammar school – presents a challenge to the school in terms of development in several spheres. With its innovative approach in the Estonian education system, it is a step closer to becoming a school with a changed studying approach. In order to be worthy of the seal of quality – “A Well-Run School 2014” -, Gustav Adolf Grammar School is adamant that we must learn from the positive experiences and practices of other schools before introducing radical changes. The aim of the mobility of the staff of GAG is to, firstly, get acquainted with the curriculum and work arrangement of several European schools, the content and amount of subject courses, the arrangement of research papers, creative tasks and project studying, and teaching in level-based groups, all achieved through shadowing. This knowledge is then used to compare different national curriculum, (new) teaching methods and the nuances of running a school; to learn from the best experiences of partner schools and to assimilate their know-how into the context and development of our curriculum. Secondly, with the help of mobility and international courses, the project enables teachers of GAG to be in the know of the latest developments and modern teaching methods in the field of education. Our goal is to raise teachers’ professional level in their subject and to give them new knowledge and skills in their field, which would enable them to help the school renew the school curriculum, modernize the content of teaching and work out new and various optional courses for students with different interests and academic levels. The project comprises shadowing colleagues in partner schools in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the UK, Iceland, Spain and France and familiarizing themselves with the education system and work arrangement of these countries and schools. In addition, it aims to offer international courses for teachers of foreign languages, natural sciences etc. with the aim of developing the school’s system of courses with modern content in order to motivate students to study, to widen their horizons and to support their further studies and choice of subject.
