Our country’s geopolitical position, field structure, climate, vegetation and socio-economic situations make beekeeping quite possible. However, the honey production does not have enough development levels in our country. Although we have transferred from the primitive hives to the modern hives, our honey production avarage for per hive is below the world average. This situation originates from the fact that production based on bee products such as pollen, royal jelly, propolis, bee venom etc. is not very common now, and that beekeeping is carried out in most area in the primitive conditions and without the modern technical information. It is not possible to handle with colonies in beekeeping correctly without enough experiences, and colony losses occur due to various reasons. Recently, deaths and colony losses which have been experienced in honey bees in USA and then in Europe at high level, have been observed in our country as well. For these reasons, bee breeding is also significant for herbal production in addition to its place in national economy and its agricultural and socio-economic contributions. Given that there is no need for fertile, agricultural soils in beekeeping, and that beekeeping is richer in mountainous and forestry areas engaged in agriculture, as a part of livestock sector in which natural and healthy production is realized away from pesticide residues, a rural development will be provided more, women will obtain more achievements in this field and so this will provide important contributions to national economy in terms of employment. The aim of the project is to benefit from our foreign partners’ information and experiences about the different techniques of beekeping in order to increase honey production per hive on available and to obtain information about the economical losses resulted from the bee diseases which cause to bee deaths. Firstly, the trainers will be given theoretical and practical education, and then necessary information will be addressed to the beekeepers under the project. The institution staff will be equipped with new information, skills and qualifications, and so their personal developments will be achieved. Hereby, the participants will deal with the titles such as the functioning pattern of the “Apiculture Center of the Hellenic Institute” in Greece from the countries of European Union, its working tehniques, its projects, the research organization laboratories and infrastructure, the public-university-private sector cooperation, the producers’ organization structure, the enterprisers’ situation, the product marketing strategies and the methodology of adult vocational education. 7 members as representatives of Consortium coordinator Agricultural Development Foundation of Konya; 7 members from Meram Food, Agriculture and Livestock District Directorate; And 7 members from Konya Beekeepers Association will participate in this project.Among the project activities; there are sub-titles such as signing on the project contract with the National Agency, creating the project team, introducing the project to public, taking and evaluating the participant demands, giving information to the partners and the participants about the project, organizing cultural and social activities, making preparations for travelling (passport, visa, flight ticket, accommodation), completing flow acitivities, assessing information resulting from mobility by partner institutions, evaluating the project, making the last report and introducing the project results to public. The project management team will be assigned in the running of the project from the beginning to the end, they will keep in communication with all partners. The host country of the project will give education to the project participants for 10 days in the scope of project. Within the programme of vocational education, the techniques of queen breeding, the applied beekeeping training, the bee colonies and equipments, the colony losses, the struggles for bee diseases, the effects of pesticides and acaricides on health of honey bee will be mentioned for the target groups via audio-visual and applied instruction. The education presented in the project will fulfill the beekeepers’ needs in education and information. Thus, the beekeepers will increase technical capacities in our region, and this situation will be encouraging for the other beekeepers. Beekeeping will make labour force productive in rural area, furthermore, it will introduce natural resources not being used to economy. Beekeeping is an activity which does not require more labour forces and can be done without delaying other agricultural works. That’s why, the project will provide a new employment area for farmers and lead to increases in the economical contributions of female beekeepers who play important roles in agricultural production, by giving education to them.
