Growth Mindset
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Context/background of the project: The background for the project is a long standing partnership between a number of schools from Norway, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Spain. We have for a number of years cooperated through projects in the Comenius program. In this project we wanted to explore the methodology of Growth Mindsets, which is a teaching method aimed at teaching students to become better learners by believing that they can develop through dedication and effort. This is opposed to having a fixed mindset where you believe that traits are givens, that you have a certain amount of talent and nothing can change that. Description of undertaken aktivities: Teachers from all of our partner schools joined together for a training session that looked at the impact of action research on positive outcomes for school improvement. Participants learned about research methodology and received full training on ‘Growth Mind-sets’ at the Anna van Rijn School in The Netherlands. The training was given by an accredited training provider, the Portsmouth University. Objectives: The aim was that teachers would use their new skills following the training, to collaborate on the development of a classroom resource. Each school would be able to evaluate their progress using the agreed outcome measures from the training session (student focus groups, observations, questionnaires). Our aim was to measure the impact of ‘Growth Mind-sets’ delivered through the development of Citizenship resources (that focus on perceptions of Europe) and to consider whether students are more resilient having completed the agreed program of work. Outcomes will be shared with partner schools and staff will reflect on their own practice and on how their students have changed and progressed. Project outcomes will inform a new European Citizenship cycle of work in school. Outcomes will be disseminated via web-sites and direct to other schools. Having received training in Growth Mindsets, staff will have the capacity to deliver the training to all other staff in their institution. Students of all abilities, will receive input related to the Growth Mindset training in the first phase prior to the development of the second phase in year 2. As an institution, we will be evaluating students' work and consider how their perspectives on their own heritage and perceptions of Europe have changed. Long term, the school will have developed and embedded a sustainable Growth Mindset culture. Number of participants: From Thora Storm Upper Secondary School, two teachers participated in the training session in the Netherlands. We would have liked to send more participants, but limited funding meant that we could not send more teachers. The teachers we sent were both language teachers, one of the teachers have previoiusly participated in the Comenius project with the other shcools, while the other teacer was new to this group.
