“Group in Action” was a 8 days semi-outdoor training course held in Bakuriani/Borjomi Kharagauli National Park, Georgia during the period of 26th of August – 3rd of September, 2015. The training course brought together 36 active and motivated youth workers working with the various groups of youngsters from the following 10 countries: Denmark, Belgium, Georgia, Armenia, Italy, Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Romania and Czech Republic. The group, together with 3 experienced trainers went through the program which was based on experiential learning cycle in order to give the participants the opportunity to better understand the patterns of the group dynamic, develop leadership and practical skills in the facilitation of groups, thereby improve the quality of inclusive youth work. Experiential Learning had been the main method used during the main activity. As mentioned, the group went through the whole EL cycle (Concrete Experience → Reflective Observation → Abstract Conceptualisation → Active Experimentation) in order to experience the group processes in practice. The project involved 3 days of challenging hiking trip to Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, located in the Southern mountain range of Caucasus, (Also called “Low Caucasus”) with its breathtaking beauty. Theoretical input by trainers reinforced deep understanding of the topic by the participants. The program ensured the permanent multi-step reflection process using various methods throughout whole project in order to better shape-up the learning points. We also made sure to leave the space for the participants to develop their own activities and transform the acquired knowledge into practical workshops, which boosted their facilitation and leadership skills. The training course also targeted to create a strong multiplier effect, as most of the participants were directly involved in working with the youngsters with social disadvantages, who can transfer the knowledge attained during the project in their daily work.
