GREEN skills for enterprises - Sustainable Training for Automotive suppliers clusteR

The global sustainability challenge and the necessary transition toward a low carbon economy has a relevant impact on employment,as green restructuring generates demand for new skills to support industry re-orientation toward sustainable production. According to the Skills for Green Jobs 2010 CEDEFOP Study, the automotive sector and its cluster are the most prominent examples of the demand for additional competences and re-training of workers. The Eco Innovation Action Plan launched in 2011 underlines there is still a large gap between the potential for sustainable innovation and its state of art in SMEs. GREEN STAR aims to support the systemic change toward eco-innovation in the cluster of automotive suppliers, mainly SMES, by transferring the Leonardo DOI “GT-VET” Sustainable Training Module for the European Steel Industry and the Blueprint for the implementation process of green skills for the industry in coherence with different national VET systems. Through the Blueprint, the Module has been adapted to the automotive suppliers cluster in Italy, Spain and Romania. Technical workers and apprentices in SMEs have been provided with knowledge and skills to manage and implement smart and sustainable growth by coping with regulatory frameworks and simultaneously exploiting new market opportunities offered by green innovation.The transnational consortium includes the source of innovation represented by the University of Dortmund, which ensured the scientific transfer and stimulated the discussion during the Focus Groups with the relevant stakeholders, by showcasing the GT-VET Blueprint and Module. Other partners, including the Lead, are Employers training and service organisations and Chamber of Commerce in Italy, Spain and Romania. Moreover, Clusters Leader SMEs in the three countries are involved. To ensure the full exploitation of results by VET systems in Italy (North and South) and at EU level, the Region of Veneto – Labour Section and the European Vocational Training Association contribute to the activities and the valorization process.Additionally to the short term impact on Automotive suppliers cluster, workers and apprentices directly involved, the involvement and assessment of each project phase by external stakeholders opened up to further transfer opportunities to other clusters and VET sectors.
