The "Green My School" project seeks to initiate a domino effect amongst all schools and public institutions in Europe. Climate change is a reality whose devastating effects will be mostly suffered by the young generations and their descendants unless we reduce our carbon footprint. With this project we want to start working towards lowering our impact on the environment in our daily lives. Reducing the carbon footprint and waste in our schools through the work of students and teachers will empower us to demand a similar responsible behavior from others around us. To work on this project, five schools in different parts of Europe with some situated outside our continent have joined forces. All the schools involved are different in relation to religious denomination, language, culture, location and type of school building, however students and teachers in all of them feel the urgency to reduce their negative impact on Earth and want to start a new era of positive actions. Reproducing similar results in different parts of Europe and in schools with different backgrounds will be an example of what we can do independently of our origins. Our work will be student-based and cooperative. The students from the five schools will share ideas and actions that they will develop with the help of their teachers and schools. Potentially all the students in the five schools will be involved in the project one way or another, but there will be a smaller team of roughly 150 students and teachers directly involved. Of those, 61 will be more active in the communication process between the schools. All the participants will measure the schools' impact on the environment using different variables and establish realistic goals to reduce it. They will also seek the help of experts in the area and discuss through annual conferences the challenges they face, their objective results and plans. They will also document their progress in an on-line platform making it available to anyone that wants to follow our schools' steps. Through their work they will also develop their science, maths, communication and English language skills. We strongly believe that we can make our schools sustainable and want to prove it. Working together with other schools will make far more progress than working by ourselves. Our final goal is to initiate a cascade of events in schools, neighborhoods, towns and cities.
