GEO is an EVS project involving 3 volunteers from Sweden carrying out their service in Nicaragua with the local NGO CIPP. During this life-changing experience the volunteers will develop entrepreneurial skills and learn to constructively deal with global and European issues such as and poverty reduction and exclusion. The volunteers will be hosted at CIPPs headquarters on the charming organic farm Casa Montesano. The 12-month project consists in 3 services of 5 months duration each, during which the volunteers will acquire many relevant skills that significantly will improve their employment prospects. The project is primarily designed to address the following themes; European Awareness, urban/rural development gender equity, anti-discrimination (based on sexual orientation or other), health, environment, and animal welfare. The main objectives of the project are to:• empower unemployed and young people with fewer opportunities to become active citizens • promote creativity and entrepreneurship and promote a spirit of solidarity and environmental awareness• foster a sense of European Citizenship and promote mutual understanding between youth in Nicaragua and Europe • provide non-formal studies in Spanish and promote intercultural exchange• create visibility about the option of volunteering through Youth in ActionThe volunteers will assist CIPP in their daily work and the tasks include organization of workshops, participatory policy development, outdoor farm-related activities, work with digital media, and taking part in scientific experiments that are conducted on the site in cooperation with the Mid Sweden University. The learning dimension is ensured through non formal learning in participatory workshops, and Spanish and media classes. The supervisors and invited instructors will provide guidance but the volunteers will also be encouraged to test new ideas and the service is designed to empower them through their own empirical learning.
