Objective of the projectThe objective of the project was to encourage the development of green cities and settlements in remote border areas.Main activities• Organization of thematic workshops to present best practices and prepare practical joint proposals and plans aimed at improving the living environment and the attractiveness of the region. • Mapping of local resources to prepare strategies for resource and energy use efficiency measures. • To improve the utilization of the spatial potential in remote border areas by creating assessment studies and other researches, which have pointed out the opportunities in spatial potential.• To identify and address the key challenges of climate change in remote border areas.• To build awareness and sharing information on potentials and possibilities of sustainable spatial development.• Recommendations in natural resources management. Achievements: The project has produced up to date information and recommendations regarding spatial planning and resource management of pilot territories. Various assessment reports and best practice studies have been compiled, which have been used in making of specific roadmaps, which can be used in planning of the development of the pilot territories. The authorities, politicians and other decision makers can utilize these in order to ensure the economic viability of the pilot territories in harmony with the environment. This will benefit in the end the final beneficiaries and target groups of the project, the citizens of the pilot territories and the programme area in general.
