Graphical Facilitation

Context: Visual facilitation is a method of using visual practices (like: drawings, create images, using colors and post-it notes) to support a group’s learning process and to lead groups towards a goal. “One picture is truly worth a 1000 words, pictures help convey realms of data efficiently” (http://ifvpcommunity.ning.com/page/who-are-we). All our partners implement projects supported by the European Commission under the integrated Erasmus+ Programme in which they have an increased number of materials, such as: markers, pencils, crayons, flipchart, etc. but they don’t know exactly how to use it in the most efficient way. Our training course provides the answer regarding the utility of applying visual facilitation to support a learning group in all projects under Erasmus + programme in a non-formal learning context with national and transnational participation. Goal: Organizing a 8 days training course between 14-21 October 20 in Lunčenec on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in youth work activities. Objectives: O1. Developing practical knowledge, competences and abilities on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in youth work activities of 40 youth workers, youth leaders, youth work, trainers of 10 non-profit organizations from 10 countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Lithuania by organizing a 8 days training course in Lunčenec until the end of the project. O2. Increasing the capacity of organizing trainings, events and other youth activities using visual facilitation methods and techniques of 10 partner organizations from the above mentioned countries until the end of the project. O3. Increasing the level of efficacy of DEOR within youth activities and Erasmus + through visual facilitation techniques and methods among the 10 partner organizations from the countries mentioned above until the end of the project. Target group: The project includes 40 participants from 10 partner countries, 10 of them facing geographic, social and economic barriers (1/country) and 2 of them with special needs (people with disabilities). From each country we envisage as participants in the project one project manager, one youth worker and other 2 staff members. This training course consists of 5 phases: P1-Building groups, getting to know each other, safety and protection measurements, P2-Theoretical background and and hands on experience graphic facilitation and visual storytelling. Learning how to draw using 8 basic elements and principles of drawing, P3- performing-Visual Storytelling in a work visit; P4- Discovering together Erasmus + and thinking of ideas for future projects, Through group work, participants will create the Manual of Visual Facilitation Tools, upload photos and articles on the web platform. P5- Making the DVDs for dissemination. Final evaluation and certification. Methodology: In order to fulfill our activities we make full use of participative nonformal educational methods like: animation of the participants, games, learning by doing, reflection sessions; individual learning; active participation in group activities, graphic facilitation, visual storytelling, performing. Results and impact: The participants will increase knowledge, competences and skills on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in their youth work activities. They will have the chance to develop and improve some key competences for lifelong learning, such as learning to learn, interpersonal and intercultural competences, as well as cultural awareness and expression and others. Moreover, the project also contributes to increasing the capacities of all 10 partner organisations of organizing activities using visual facilitation methods and techniques. They will also increase the level of efficacy of DEOR within youth activities and Erasmus +. The results of our project, especially manual of visual facilitation tools, are useful resources for other NGOs and youth organizations, in particular for youth leaders, youth workers, trainers and staff from NGOs. Long-term results: Our project is closely linked to the European Youth Strategy 2010- 2018, agreed by EU Ministers , ensuring that all people have equal chances to high quality education and training and developing youth work and other non-formal learning opportunities (http://ec.europa.eu/youth/policy/youth_strategy/index_en.htm). By developing competences, skills, abilities and knowledge of 40 participants on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in youth work activities; we provide chances to high quality training and non-formal learning opportunities.
