Grandma's Design. Revisiting Europe's baking heritage
Date du début: 1 mai 2012,

Grandma’s Design. Revisiting Europe’s baking heritage, brings together culinary (baking) heritage and food design, coming from Finland, Turkey, Italy, Belgium and The Netherlands. In each country, grandmothers will be filmed whilst preparing a traditional baking recipe typical for their region or their country. The films will be published online on an international digital platform. This digital platform will be the starting point and inspiration source for the creative sector. Designers in the participating countries will choose a grandmother with whom they will meet and create a new food concept integrating the history of the recipe (old uses, materials, ingredients, baking ways, traditions, …), while paying attention to sustainability and the new conditions of modern society. Designers will communicate with each other through the digital platform and in this way be part of a community where old baking traditions and new food ideas from different European countries are presented, discussed and exchanged. The final creations of the designers will be presented to an international jury of experts, who will make – taking into account the results of a public voting - a selection for the project's publication. In this book, titled 'Grandma's Design. Revisiting Europe’s baking heritage' , grandmothers and designers will be presented as creating duos, with the old recipe on one side and the new food creation on the other side. The jury will also select one winning duo per country: their new food concept will be paid particular attention, if possible through merchandising. The films of the grandmothers, the photographs/portraits of the grandmothers and the designers, the presentation of the new food concepts by the designers and – in some of the cases – their physical realizations, will be exposed in various food-, heritage-, folk- and design museums in Europe.
