TERMINÉ
The module will cover the history of European Integration with a fresh focus on the external relations of the EEC/EU, offering an up to date introduction to historiography and current problems. Innovative in content, the course will also introduce new teaching methodologies based on small group tutorials and on archival research. In doing so, it will develop a tailor-made course on the EU issues which are relevant for participating students. The course will be offered to MA students in History at the Department of Humanities of the University of Trento, but it will be open to registration for students of the MA in Foreign Languages and to students of the MA in European and International Studies at the School of International Studies. It will represent an added value for the Department of Humanities, where a course on the history of the EEC/EU was never offered. The module will be divided into 6 sections. In the first, students will be introduced to the main ideas, institutions, and policies of European integration, with a focus on the role of the EEC/EU in international affairs. In order to understand the current EU role in international affairs, sections 2-4 will touch on specific areas: transatlantic relations, relations to the ACP and Mediterranean countries, relations to Eastern Europe. Section 5 will be based on archival research. After an introduction by the Director Dr. D. Schlenker, students will work on primary sources at the Historical Archives of the European Union. They will discuss their findings in guided seminars on site and write a final paper using archive materials. Students will discuss their papers in a final workshop (section 6) open to the local community. They will also construct a website / virtual exhibition, in order to disseminate findings outside of the academia.
