One volunteer from Poland spends 14 months in the city of Aachen. Aachen is a young student town, situated directly at the border to Belgium and the Netherlands with a long, thrilling history. The city has a lot to offer in terms of leisure, cultural and sport activities. Aachen is well known as a European city in which the diversity of the population from numerous European countries left its mark. During the year of his/her learning service, the volunteer will work 4 days a week in a group house for adults and young adults with intellectual or physical disability. He/she will support the inhabitants of one of the group houses in their daily activities, sanitary care and accompany them in their leisure activities. One volunteer will work one day per week in the office of the international peace movement pax christi. There he/she will be involved in the organization and implementation of such events as "Run for peace", the bestowal of the "Peace Award" and remembrance events to the First World War. Some of the field of activity will be public relations, contact with partners, translation of documents. The volunteer will get the occasion to learn German through 1 or 2 languages courses offered during the year. On top of that the volunteer gets the possibility to carry out one of his/her own project.
