The project aims to increase the participation of youth in the city of Berat, creating opportunities for them to be engaged in inter-cultural and sporting activities as well as training and employment opportunities through cultural and tourism activities. It contributes directly to the objectives of the project which are: to leverage the intercultural competence of youth and active citizenship, employability and development cooperation between the participant countries; to reduce of youth unemployment and enlarge the Volunteer's opportunities to enter the increasingly tense and complex labour market; to encourage the inclusion of youth to be active citizens, involved in their communities and into a European and global environment; to increase the awareness and knowledge, and to introduce young people to topics as: Development of the local community, cultural topics, tourism, intercultural exchanges and dimension. Municipality of Berat will host one volunteer from every social background and origins willing to experiment non-formal learning in an international and multicultural dimension for 10 months. Municipality of Berat is looking for one volunteer between 22-30 years with good level of English; ability to adapt to and work in multicultural environments; interest in youth, tourism and heritage topics; good communication and social skills. The volunteers will be involved in the following types of activities: organization of cultural and art activities, outdoor activities such as city cleaning campaigns, outdoor sports etc.; support and creation of youth camp in the summer about city’s historic heritage; organization and support of the food and music festivals; organization of Italian culture and language workshop and information sessions; organization and support of activities of Touristic Office in Municipality of Berat; contribution to the planning of promoting Berat city abroad and translation to Italian language; creation of links and partnerships between Municipality of Berat and other international and Italian partners in touristic field. During the project the volunteer will participate in several preparatory activities and trainings, both before their departure and upon their arrival in Albania. All the organizations and the Staff involved in the project will offer continuous support to the Volunteers throughout the whole duration of the project. The Volunteers' role and responsibilities will be discussed and defined through regular meetings and exchanges. The communication will be facilitate through the use of several tools as weekly meetings and reports. Through the project the partecipants are expected to enhance their employability and career prospects, self-empowerment and self-esteem, foreign language competences, intercultural awareness, a more active participation in society, a better awareness of the European projects and the EU values and motivation for taking part in future (formal/non-formal) education or training after the mobility period abroad. The participating organizations are expected to increase capacity to operate at EU/international level, cooperation with partners from other countries; to increase allocation of financial resources (other than EU funds) to organize EU/international projects and a more modern, dynamic, committed and professional environment inside the organizations. Furthermore the project is expected to increase the beneficiaries' awareness and knowledge on cultural issues, fostering youth active participation in policy making processes, awareness of the EU-funded projects and the related opportunities and voluntarism among local youth people. In this way, the city of Berat will be able to implement high-quality intercultural activities which are in fashion with the status of the city itself as a World Heritage City.
