Global Environmental Sustainability Project
Date du début: 1 déc. 2010,
GESP - The Global Environmental Sustainability Project is a unique 3-year mobility project with partners in the UK, Austria, Poland, Denmark and Australia. The sustainable management of the environment is a crucial issue for future generations. Whilst there are national and international consortia focusing on collaborative research in this area, there are no existing global (i.e. trans-continental) programmes that provide for the movement of students between institutions. The project will be launched in November 2010 and will be concluded in October 2013. The project will provide opportunities for 32 EU students to study sustainability issues in Australia for one semester, and 30 Australian students to study sustainability issues in EU for one semester. In order to ensure the widest possible participation, the project will be open to students at undergraduate level (Bachelors), and participants will be able to choose amongst all relevant courses at the respective institutions. The language of instruction in the majority of cases will be English, but students may have the option of studying in the home language of the host EU country (i.e. German, Polish or Danish). This project will enable future specialists and current academics in this discipline to share best practice in education and research, gain experience of environmental management in a different geographical spectrum and confront the future challenges of sustainability in an increasingly complex international environment that fosters global collaboration. The stark needs and differences in environmental management between Europe and Australia are reflected in the courses taught at the European and Australian institutions. The over-arching theme of the project is, however, the global imperative of the sustainable management of our environment. By taking part in this project, students will gain an invaluable insight in to the additional aspects of environmental sustainability that they would not have learnt by staying on one continent. During the project we will work towards a common system of credit and grade recognition which can be of future use to other institutions exchanging students between our continents. Furthermore, as part of the project there is the commitment for partners to investigate the possibility of launching permanent undergraduate or postgraduate programmes to be taught jointly between Australian and EU institutions.
