Global City - Local City
Date du début: 1 juil. 2012,

GL-CL is a project for the artistic exploration of the social, ecological, civic and political realities and potentials in individual city quarters and of global city developments of the cities of the participating dance and theatre festivals. GL-CL will create new performing art works relevant to the residents of a city quarter, and examine new perspectives for European artists. GL-CL wants to sensitize for a new dimension of the (performing) arts: “city art works.”Each festival will invite 1-2 local/festival-related artists to the project. They will form a group, which will then work at all “CityLAB workshops” in every city of the festivals. Out of this group, each festival later on will choose 1 artist from another European country for a residency. In this residency, the selected artist will create a new local city art work. The results will be confronted with the city art works by other artists, who question different aspects of urban realities. The aim is to integrate artists into a wider range of European artistic exchange and collaboration, and to open a new discourse about the city and art interaction. The project will be realized with several clusters of activities: CityLAB workshops, residencies, new city art work (local aspects), invitation of European guest performances (global aspects), larger debate and discussion on the city, evaluation meetings, a final interdisciplinary forum and a final publication. Objectives:To sensitize performance artists, audience and media to local aspects of European cities. To involve artists in the actual discussions about urbanism, city development etc.To explore options of artistic action together with city residents. To enable artists to work on city art projects with options for sustainable results. To bring locally rooted artists in dialogue with European-wide known artistsTo create and disseminate new city-related art work.To enlarge the debate about the potential of artistic action in the city.
