Give and Gain through Service Learning and Volunteering

“Give and Gain through Service Learning and Volunteering” was a 9-day international training course that enabled facilitators,trainers and activity leaders in international youth work and in ERASMUS+ projects to design, facilitate, debrief and reflect onService learning projects and group dynamics of high impact in communities through volunteering activities. The training broughttogether 24 participants from 7 countries: Romania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Bulgaria, Moldova and Italy, and will took place inthe surroundings of Jelgava in Latvia. All the sessions were facilitated by 2 experienced trainers in using non-formal educationand Service Learning method working and preparing youth workers in this field.The context of learning provided throughout the sessions was an opportunity to for al participants to acquire and exercise newtools and competences in non-formal education (including the competence to create/ design and facilitate news sessions andtools based on the needs of a given target group), to identify best practices, and to undergo a coached self-assessment as atrainer resulting in a development and action plan for the professional future. Most of the participants had a few experience inthe field and wanted to experiment as much as they can in order to know how to apply in their organizations back home. Theparticipants learned how to give and receive structured feedback from/to each other, to design sessions on given topics, to gothrough teambuilding exercises and process them, to debate about different aspects regarding our main topic in their countries.We managed to fine-tuned skills and awareness of the participants for group dynamics, using methods, setting up the context,using properly the content, setting dynamics, finding out and using learning styles that stimulated the participants to add differentperspective of innovation, inclusion and participation to their future activities.
