Give a hand” is going to be a learning project under the European Voluntary Service (EVS), clearly aiming at disseminating certain skills and awareness about Youth Work among the members of the Youth Clubs in Cyprus. This project is expected to play an important role in the dissemination of the European values among the youth of Cyprus. At the same time, it will have a great impact to the local volunteers as they will have the chance to be introduced to this European Voluntary Service and other European projects. Four young people at the age of 17- 30 years old and coming from France, Italy and Greece will be staying in Cyprus for 6 months in order to experience the structure of a Youth Clubs Organisation and at the same time contribute to the Organisation's everyday working life. The project will start on the 3rd of April and finish at the end of September. The volunteers will be staying in Nicosia and Limassol so that better access to all Youth Clubs of our Pancyprian Organisation is fulfilled.The need for this project to be implemented falls into the fact that volunteerism is currently passing through an identity and participation crises. This comes down to the fact that young people in Cyprus are still in a difficult position as it comes to their employment opportunities or even their career path. Also, time has become a valuable asset that many cannot afford losing by volunteering or organising different youth events. Nowadays, most of the young people in Cyprus are focused on how to get a job and how to create the best cover letter and curriculum vitae. They are struggling with time management and their priorities are mostly concerned with how to find a job. In addition, according to a recent research carried out by KPMG for the Youth Board of Cyprus, there is the need for young people to be officially recognised about their social and voluntary contribution as it is something that enhances their curriculum vitae and acts as an indicator of active involvement in the social and civic community. Even though, that many other volunteers do not agree with this; still, recognition is something that can motivate the young people and give the strength to move forward and achieve even more things for the group of people they are dealing with. During this EVS, the volunteers will:- increase their skills through the practical experience of volunteering abroad;- learn another language;- develop the ability of interaction with persons of different language and culture;- spread tolerance among young people of the European Union;- promote active citizenship;- support the development of local communities and- disseminate the European values.Their daily routine will be based on the office hours of the organisation. They will work 30-35 hours per week from 9:00am to 16:00pm. During this time, they will also get one hour for their lunch break from 13.00-14.00. On the weekends, they will have their days off unless there are any events, seminars and. or other social gatherings at which they wish to be involved with. With the use of various interactive activities based in non-formal education methods, the project will have a more social character and the young people will learn how to work as a team, share their opinions and ideas in a democratic way, be more open-minded and develop a critical oriented way of thinking as it comes to what they read and learn during their learning period. Activities such as projects implementation, events planning and communication with the youth clubs will challenge the volunteers and motivate them on looking for information, update themselves, show respect towards the local volunteers and not only- and act in a more creative manner in order to rise above all these challenges. With constant guidance from the European Projects Manager of the Organisation, the EVS volunteers will create a calendar and an inspirational booklet related to the value of volunteerism. Also, the EVS volunteers will follow a learning path that will enable them to build a network that will help them even after their voluntary service in Cyprus comes to an end. In addition, mentorship will be an integral part of the EVS process since the volunteers might need some guidance at their personal life as well. An ongoing evaluation process will take place during the activity and at the end of the project we are going to issue a Youthpass certificate for each volunteer involved in this EVS. Especially for the people with fewer opportunities and who are unemployed, the project 'Give a hand' will help them to gain more information and practical awareness on what youth work is, to raise their visibility and to become well known among other groups of young people.
