Geographic information technology for sustainable development in Eastern neighbouring countries

This project aims to reform higher education in geodesy and cartography in Ukraine, Armenia and Moldova in order to support sustainable development in these countries. The reform will integrate traditional geodesy and cartography with new technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create modern geographic information technology (GIT) education in the partner countries.The specific objectives of the project are:- to strengthen the link between GIT education and the societies by establishing an Advisory Board and a student career service center and conducting a survey among GIT stakeholders in each partner country- to modernise existing curricula and create new GIT curricula including development of new teaching materials- to establish 6 GIS Laboratories in 3 partner countries- to re-train partner country staff in modern technologies and concepts including 4 intensive training courses on selected geodesy and GIS topics- to introduce new pedagogical methods and quality assurance mechanism in GIT education- to establish web-based e-learning systems in three partner countries to support regular students, correspondence students as well as professionals in life-long learningThe project will be a three-years joint project with the following partners (with KTH as the co-ordinator):Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, SwedenPolytechnical University of Valencia (UPV), SpainStuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HFT), GermanyLviv Polytechnical National University (LPNU), UkraineKiev National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), UkraineYerevan State University of Architecture and Construction (YSUAC), ArmeniaYerevan State University (YSU), ArmeniaArmenian State Agrarian University (ASAU), ArmeniaCenter of Geodesy and Cartography (CGC), Yerevan, ArmeniaTechnical University of Moldova (TUM), Chisinau, MoldovaTiraspol State University (UST), Chisinau, Moldova
