GENDERED - Pour une approche intégrée de l'égalité dans les projets et organisations de jeunesse
Date du début: 1 août 2016, Date de fin: 31 juil. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The GENDERED project (Gather - Explore - Nurture - Deconstruct - Experiment - Raise awareness - Empower - Disseminate) has been developed in the framework of a Partnership Building Activity that took place in October 2015 in Armenia. Besides ParticipAction, a number of non-profit organisations have expressed their interest in engaging themselves in a global reflection on gender equality within their (local) contexts. This project has been designed with the following objectives:- to question one’s professional practices - in terms of project methodology and management - through the gender lenses;- to identify key areas from one’s organisation or methodology to be gender-mainstreamed and/or specific topics to be developed in order to achieve gender equality; - to develop a 6-month strategy and implement a practical project within one’s organisation and/or community;- to share visions and experiences among professionals and activists from various backgrounds (in terms of origins, areas of specialisation, working methods, etc.)- to design common methodologies and tools;- to contribute to the development of a "culture of gender equality" among youth organisations. This long-term project is composed of 3 phases:1/ A training course that will take place from October 29th to November 6th in Saint-Denis d'Anjou, Mayenne, aiming at gathering organisations from a broad range of backgrounds, leading social and civic actions towards a great variety of publics; exploring together the topic of gendermainstreaming; nurturing participants with experiences and theoretical inputs and allowing them to share practices; deconstructing stereotypes and gender-based representations. 2/ A 6-month period in the partners’ local contexts to experiment the approach of gendermainstreaming within the organisations and/or implement a specific project; raise awareness within one’s organisation and beyond, within the local community; empower the members of one’s structure and target groups, especially those in a situation of vulnerability. 3/ A seminar, from May 6th to 14th 2017 in Saint-Denis, Seine-Saint-Denis, to evaluate the experimental phase, share experiences and results with partners in the Paris region that are specialised in gender-related topics, and disseminate the results of the project. This project will involve a total of 28 participants (including the ParticipAction team), which means 2 participants by organisation. As much as possible, the partners wish to keep a balance between young people (above 18) with little experience and more experienced youth workers. It seems also very interesting, in terms of peer learning and group dynamics, to have a balance between participants who did not yet reflect much on gender equality and some that are more advanced in their reflection and practices. The ParticipAction team will also try to ensure a female-male-others balance in the group. Both the training course and the seminar will be based on the principles of active participation, non formal education and experiential learning. Pedagogical methods will include: personal reflection, Theater of the Oppressed techniques such as games, image-theater and forum-theater, sharings from the materials brought by the participants, critical analysis of the media, case studies, working groups and study visits. In the last part of the project, participants will design a set of recommendations (guide) to implement gendermainstreaming in youth organisations practices and useful resources to lead actions in various areas (such as preventing and fighting against gender-based violence, empowering target groups, promoting LGBT people‘s rights, etc.) The first target group of the GENDERED project is the group of participants. The project will indeed allow them to question their personal systems of beliefs and representations and their working methods. The 3 parts of the project, implying experiential learning and in particular a supervised experimental phase, will allow them to develop their skills, to foster gender sensitivity and thus quality in their projects and organisations. Partners will contribute to better empower their target groups and disseminate a « culture of gender equality » within their community. Finally, building partnerships between various organisations and stakeholders will lead to the implementation of new transnational projects promoting gender equality. Therefore, this process can significantly inspire other youth organisations, members of European and international networks to join such initiatives.
