Gender equality and equal opportunities are very important factors for the successful development of society. Gender roles are often treated as a public granted/ imposed roles. Many misconceptions and distortions of the concept of gender stems from the traditional character of the negative stereotypes of gender roles. It is observed that the gender roles that are based on misconceptions and negative stereotypes, promotes social exclusion, marginalization and discrimination in today's life. In relation to promoting social inclusion, equality of gender, active collaboration between the genders and reduction of discrimination it is needed to tackle these negative stereotypes and to analyze gender differences and roles in society. When working with young people it is need to develop their awareness of equal opportunities in relation to gender, so this project is necessary contribution to the education of young people. This project aims to raise awareness on gender roles in society through non-formal education, while analyzing gender role realities in different contexts, increasing knowledge and understanding between different countries, discussing participants' everyday environment with special attention to gender-role stereotypes . The project also aims to motivate young people to take responsible actions and be active members of society, to promote intercultural understanding, inter-ethnic dialogue, creation of friendly relations with other cultures. During this project advanced planning visit and youth exchange will be organized. Youth Exchanges will be held July 26 - August 2, 2015 in Marijampole region (Lithuania), It will involve 8 young people and two group leaders from each of the participating organizations (a total of 40 young people and 10 group leaders from Vilkaviskis children and youth center (Lithuania), Lohjan nuorisopalvelut (Finland), Dom Kultury frames (Poland), Champions Factory Sports Club (Bulgaria), Asociatia Hair Redivivus Buzau (Romania)). Project participants will be 14-25 year-olds, who attend or are involved partners activities. Also who are interested in modern technology, filming and acting, sporting activities. In project activities will include young people with fewer opportunities (facing social, economic and geographical obstacles). Participants in the project will improve and develop their personal and social abilities, acquire filming, editing, photography, layout and journalism skills. Young people in the project will gain autonomy, responsibility and self-confidence. They will improve social and civic competences, improve knowledge of foreign languages, as main language spoken during the exchange will be English. Participants will get a better understanding of gender as a social construct, will be able to and express their views on project topic critically and argumentatively. They will improve they abilities based on eight key competencies. The project will have a strong educational impact - its activities will be implemented based on the non-formal education principles: specific and non-competitive environment; active participation in the learning process; holistic approach; learning from experience, open and informal communication; the group's process-oriented activities. Project seeks to develop a conscious personality, which is capable solving their problems responsibly and creatively, and active in society; as well as to develop young person's social competences. The project will contribute to the empowerment of young people to active participation in society, confidence-building and the promotion of taking the responsibility. Project activities seek development of young people's abilities, skills and attitudes through the acquisition of non-formal education methods; to promote awareness of gender roles in society, tackle stereotypes and create inter-cultural dialogue. During the project in mixed international groups young people will create six short films and one publication. Publication on gender roles will be made up by young people from information collected during the project preparation phase and the information collected and compiled during youth exchange. Also young people in mixed international groups will create six films (~ 5-10 min), which seeks to reveal gender roles in society. Achievements of young people, their knowledge, gained experience and a better cultural understanding will be disseminated as a result of this project.
