Their grandparents came as guest workers to Germany with their hope of a better life. Against their plan a lot of them stayed in Germany until now. They start families and created a life between their origin culture and the culture of Germany. Now the 3rd generation lives still in Germany. They were born and grew up in Germany. They grew up with the rules, the attitude and the culture of their family, influenced by their roots from Turkey. Although Turkey is part of their life, they don’t know the country by themselves. They just can create their image of Turkey by their families. Often they think of Turkey many years ago. To named Turk but to don’t know present-day Turkey is a problem for that young people. This project will give them a chance to know the answers of the questions like “How people live in Turkey?” “Is it different than in their families in Germany?”,discover their roots on their own , and travel with Turkish people to different areas of Turkey. The project trip will begin at Istanbul and will continue in 3 different cities in Turkey which sent most guest workers to Germany and Istanbul. 8 young people and one coordinator from Germany with Turkish roots and 8 Turkish young people and one coordinator from Istanbul will meet in Istanbul. They will visit their ancestors hometown all together and discover the each of the cities for three days. Then they will come back to Istanbul to share their experiences via panel discussions, film screenings, and slide-shows alongside with the city tours. In this way a better understanding of these cultural challenges can be established.
