The « Garden of Forking Paths » Project aims to make four teachers of Jean Macé College work on two areas :- the learning the English language - the knowledge of former cultures, foundation of the European identityIn this purpose, we will propose three actions :- an English course in Oxford, "Intensive General English", from 08/15/2016 to 08/26/2016 - a course in Palermo, Sicily, "Sicily, a chain of Civilisations", from 13/02/2017 to 19/02/2017 - a course in Thessaloniki, Greece, "Tracing back Europe", from 04/05/2017 au 04/14/2017Jean Macé Collège is located in the town center of Perpignan, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, in a socially and economically depressed district. The college is starting to open up to Europe, thanks to the ongoing Project of multilateral strategic partnership Erasmus Plus "Heroic Fantasy".The "Garden of Forking Paths" Project is a full part of this dynamic process. The teachers involved in the project think that it is more and more important to talk English fluently on the one hand and on the other, to participate in EU programmes in the field of culture in order to overcome their isolation.Furthermore, the current context of College reform, starting from the beguining of the new schoolyear, will introduce interdisciplinary lessons called « Enseignements Pratiques Interdisciplinaires » and will foster exchanges and share their works. The teachers involved in the "Garden of Forking Paths" Project will pledge themselves to work together in «Languages et Cultures of the Antiquity" during three years. Finally, the dramatic events in France and in the world in the last months had often led teachers to talk to their pupills about European identity and values. The "Garden of Forking Paths"Project, in its title, sometimes reminds us that today's world is an huge labyrinth. Pupils are also led to walk down those forking paths to build themselves and become responsible citizens and adults. This project is mainly intented for four teachers but also for the whole educative communinty willing to join it, in France and in Europe. Indeed, through to the knowledge of Ancient cultures, art works and history, we can build together a modern and tolerant Europe.
