PROJET
TERMINÉ
The Future Leaders for Sustainability (FL4S) programme will foster the development, testing and launching of a programme of non-formal learning mobility with the purpose of developing young people into leaders for sustainability, using social enterprise and action learning as tools for skills and professional development. The project will give participants the opportunity to gain valuable skills and a unique opportunity to develop real-life solutions to sustainability issues in an international context. Participants will be provided with knowledge of innovative business models, concepts in sustainability and training tools; learning which will be put to action as they work together and with local communities and businesses in Beijing, to develop practical and positive solutions that are scalable and sustainable. FL4S seeks to foster understanding of environmental issues from a local to global level, to provide practical tools/skills and enable our group of learners to use social enterprise model as a tool to learn about and develop long-term, high-impact and economically viable solutions to sustainability issues. Both Europe and developing countries face a considerable number of interlinked challenges, including the economic and social consequences of the global financial crisis, climate change, declining water and energy rThe programme also increases the capacity of partner organisations through the development of an adaptable sustainability leadership programme model, which uses a social enterprise model as a tool for learning and vehicle for positive, real-life and scalable solutions. The programme will incorporate workshops, seminars, site visits to local communities/businesses and action research/learning alongside an online sharing platform. The model developed, alongside materials/tools, IT platforms and expertise will be used by partner organisations to develop an ongoing mobility-based sustainability leadership programmes for youth as along term and economically viable service or offer to users. This programme also seeks to improve the quality and recognition of non-formal learning, especially in China, to increase complementarities with EU education systems, the labour market, and an increasingly globalised society. Sustainability leadership programmes in China are rare. Chinese educational institutions rely on traditional methods of teaching: lecture based and exam heavy. This programme would expose participants to new ways of learning, as well as develop their creative and critical thinking skills. It is equally important for western leaders to develop a nuanced understanding of the challenges of dealing with environmental and social issues and opportunities associated with a developing superpower like China. Experimenting with alternative models, future scenarios and positive solutions as outlined in the recommendations of the European Parliament and the Council of 18 December 2006 on key competences for lifelong learning.
