In Western Gothenburg are major differences in results of the district's students. 2014 a multisectoral effort in low-SES areas of the district to increase the effectiveness of the primary school. Based on research, we know that successful schooling is an important factor for a good life, and that the basis for many of the educational context essential abilities added in preschool. The focus of this application is therefore on preschool as the first step in lifelong learning.
Linguistic competence (extended language concepts including creative language) becomes more important in today's globalized world and for our children to grow up to European (and world citizens). We want to take preventive action in order to create a equal preschool and therefore made this whole venture where we see that there is a clear added value in using the skills in other European countries. This is in line with the City of Gothenburg priorities, the goal of reducing the number of students who leave school early and EU goals "Improving everyone to get through school including early intervention in preschool"
The district's efforts:
The development project is overall to improve the quality of local preschools to give all children the opportunity to learn and develop as far as possible on its own conditions
The initiative has several building blocks:
- A very important is the professional development of staff, in order to systematically develop preschools work with the four educational development areas
- Improved conditions for nurseries and children in low SESområde
The part of the venture that is the basis for this application, Futura, designed to increase the quality of teaching in preschools. Four areas have been based on international research about factors for successful schooling have been selected:
1. Children's linguistic development.
Increased quality in the development of language work gives improved results in children's learning. The preschool will give each child the opportunity to develop a varied spoken language, vocabulary and ability to relate, express ideas and communicate with others
2.nd Children's creativity and innovative capacity. Learning to communicate experiences, thoughts in many forms of expression, and thereby be able to participate actively in the democratic arenas and communicate positions. Opportunity to develop their innovative abilities through an exploratory, creative approach. Balancing the imagination and intellect so that the capacity for abstract thought can be developed and opportunities for higher education and entrepreneurial activity is favored
3rd Child's confidence and self power through participation and influence. Develop procedures for the participation of children in the preschool, developing work with children's ability to self-reflection and reflection on their own learning
4th Desire to learn. Designing the educational work from the child's curiosity and interest, offer the opportunity to learn in a holistic context
In order to develop the work in these areas, we see a need to:
strengthen teachers' skills in the areas through professional development
strengthen the educational leaders' competence to lead the development
enhance managers' ability to build a dynamic and professional organization that can develop and integrate new knowledge
Be able to monitor, evaluate and disseminate the knowledge and insights that are made at all levels, individual and team-unit-area and make them resistant to the organization by developing systematic quality work.
We apply for funding to send:
20 educational leaders on course in Bassa Reggiana, Italy for 5 days.
30 teachers a year for 2 years
The four areas are the cornerstones of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy, Progett Infanzia is selected as recipients because preschool organization in which work systematically to develop the philosophy and disseminate it through international exchange.
Well established contacts / good relationships between PI and Va Gbg are guaranteed for quality
Goals for FUTURA
- To create awareness of the importance of the four areas of educational development for children's rights, development and learning, and by extension for the future development of society
-To generate interest in and knowledge of innovative pedagogy and didactics based on science and experience of the four development areas
- Together with others to be able to reflect, dialogue and process their insights to create a deeper understanding and thereby change their actions
-Jointly developing a systematic approach to disposing altered document, evaluate and analyze results, and incorporate in the daily work, and to develop further and spread to others.
The result of these efforts will be evaluated, analyzed and developed in the preschools systematic quality work.
Area level creates opportunities to drive further work and spread achieved knowledge internally and externally.
