"From the Aegean to the Black Sea" - Medieval Ports in the Maritime Routs of the East (OLKAS)

The project aims at contribution to the confrontation of an important void in the development of cultural tourism in the wider region of Black and Caspian Sea. The venture is attempted through the projection of the relationship of the entire economic/tourism/cultural space of Black Sea, through monuments which constitute a network of culture and constituted indicators of interactions during an important historical period. Achievements: The OLKAS project and the Monuments of the Byzantine World database had given an overlook to the Medieval World and 32 medieval ports around the Black Sea. Due to the programme, collaboration net among national and international institutions has been created. The database can help and improve the study, management and promotion of important monuments of Byzantine and Post Byzantine cultural heritage and furthermore reinforce the continuous cooperation of the countries and institutions involved. Well organized exchange of know-how and good practices (symposium, 2 Seminars, 3 Meetings, exchange of partners) had contributed to the improvement of agencies administrative skills. One documentary film of about 25 minutes in English with each partner was produced and screen at important international events. A publication of more than 400 pages in English has presented the main outputs of the project along with the suggested navigation to the areas ports.
