From Pannonian Intercultural Heritage Preservation Towards Improved Social Care (Pannonian Care)

The Project is envisaged as a joint action between the Gerontology Centre from Subotica and 'Cedar' from Baja. The overall objective of the Project is to contribute to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Pannonian region by means of nurturing the inter-ethnical and inter-generational dialogue and cooperation. The Project's ambition is to extend this existing practice across the borders and to bring about the synergy not only between people of different ethnic origins but also between different age groups. This would be accomplished by integrating high-school students into the workshops where the young can learn from the elderly about traditional handcrafts. In turn, inter-generational dialogue shall incur as well. Serving to this overall purpose, the Project envisages, 7 principal activities: Regional research conducted in the form of a survey. The survey would target rural households of, predominantly, elder persons and high-school students in Subotica and Baja. The aim of this activity is to establish the level of knowledge of the targeted group's) about traditional handcrafts of the region's), and possibly to identify future participants of the workshops. Second activity would include re-decorations and furnishing of those facilities (1 in Subotica and 1 in Baja) which will facilitate the workshops (building working and studying units, obtaining the necessary materials, etc.). Third activity consists of organizing the workshops where the elderly and the young will have the opportunity to learn and practice handcrafting. Within the fourth activity, cross-border exhibitions of the handcrafted items (made in the mentioned workshops) will be carried out. The fifth activity would result in a richly illustrated book on the topic of old handcrafts. Achievements: Renovation of gerontology centar, numerous researches and programs for elderly on both sides of the border, Bilingual booklet-traditional handcrafts of 200 copies, media promotion, cbc exhibitions online publications..
