Date du début: 1 juil. 2016, Date de fin: 30 juin 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The Immersion project created by LFEE will give the participant an opportunity to develop her language teaching skills, to improve her language knowledge and abilities and to deepen her understanding of other cultures. These are essential skills to successfully deliver the recommendations of the L1+2 Modern Language policy that is being implemented in Angus schools. All knowledge and skills gained will enhance the learning experience of Isla pupils and staff as well as raise awareness of the importance of Modern Languages in the field of potential future employment. The objectives are to improve the confidence and competence of the participant in order that she can take forward and support the L1+2 initiative across the staff team at Isla and with cluster colleagues. • To improve and enhance conversational French and to gain new ideas for the classroom.• To develop and maintain a bank of resources to use within the school ICT/Internet, books, songs and films.• To develop cultural awareness and an understanding of modern day living in France.• To improve pedagogy. This application is for one member of staff. Isla is a small rural school so it is our intention that the applicant will cascade knowledge gained to other staff and will take the lead role in the development of language skills and knowledge within the school and associated cluster schools when the opportunity arises. As the participant is the French Ambassador for Isla she will work with the Head Teacher to direct the development of the school aims. She has an O’Grade in French and is keen to develop her existing cultural knowledge. The week long immersion course will provide daily opportunities to gain further skills in Languages and cultural knowledge through studies of a range of pedagogical techniques. It will provide experiences as both teacher and pupil and complete immersion in the language and culture through visits to planned sites. All of these will greatly improve the participant’s individual skills in the effectiveness of teaching a modern language. The intensive week long professional learning experience will provide the practical/interactive model of how to teach a modern foreign language effectively. It would be expected that the participant will deliver workshops to other staff at Isla to bolster the planned improvement work which is supported by Richard Talleron, Power Platform. The experience will provide Isla staff strong links with practitioners in France and will increase our capacity to deliver French well through improved pedagogy, access to better resources and materials, ICT and knowledge of modern day France. We will use Assessment is for Learning (AiFL) approaches to check ongoing progress and to help us set next step targets with pupils so that our decisions about children’s competencies are well placed and the pace of learning is well suited to ongoing achievements. The potential longer term benefits are positive for pupils and staff. The Immersion course will allow the staff at Isla to work with pupils in ways which will motivate them to learn and help them to understand the importance and relevance of learning a modern language in today’s global economy. At Isla we are dedicated to giving our pupils the very best life chances and our long term goal is to nurture well rounded young individuals who have a positive outlook to life both in and beyond their local and national environments.
